Sharpe & Cowher on CBS

...perhaps brining in Cowher would convert the very large fanbase of Steeler fans in Charlotte??

One can always dream right?

Dear god, I hope we don't get more Steelers fans here than ever if he does come here. But then, only if they convert to Panthers fans & drop their loyality to the Steelers instead. :sifone:

We have as much talent as there is in the league at every position other than QB. Cowher would be a fool to go to any other open job in my humble opinion. He has EXACTLY what he loves here.

Smart athletic LB corp

Hard-nosed between the tackles RBs

Best run blockers in the league

Franchise LT

Talent in the secondary

Give him a young QB he can groom and get Kemo back in here to play the nose and he will have the pieces in place for a SB team.

Not to mention better Special teams. Cowher started off as a special teams coordinator and made damn sure his ST's during his tenure in Pitt. were a good unit.

My concerns with Cowher are obviously the 3-4 defense, if we could keep Meeks, run 4-3 with some hybrid 3-4 I think we would be maximizing our talent on defense. Secondly I wonder what would become of some of our players. E. Brown for example, a 3-4 change could really set him back, not to mention our LBs. Would Thomas Davis be back? What of Chris Harris? Our TEs? God forbid Cowher trades one of our RBs because I at least have faith that Fox would not do that.

I'm not against Cowher at all, but he is no savior.

If he comes here, I hope he gets lucky again like in Pitt.

Yes, I want a new coach, but it ain't happening this year.

I agree with Jangler wholeheartedly. Those wanting Cowher have limited vision.

You're not against Cowher but if you want him here you have limited vision?

OK.

Wanting Cowher does not preclude thinking Sean McDermott or others would be a good choice, just much less likely to wind up in Carolina.

Haha, my friend loves the Steelers. Has her whole life. Yet, she's lives here for like 18 years and rags on the Panthers. She told me if Cower coaches here, she'll start rooting for the Panthers as well as the Steelers.

Give John Fox Big Ben, Dick LeBeau and the Steeler system and he has a ring or two.

Your right, Cowher had Big Ben and great d. coordinator. Fox doesn't think QB is important if he did he would have benched Jake and we would have drafted a QB. Instead he and hurney made Peppers the highest paid player in the league this year and traded next years 1st round pick to move up in the second and take what? Another d. end. I think Brown is decent but Hurney and Fox think def end is the most important position on the field. I hope whoever we get fixes the QB position and turns up the aggressiveness on defense.

This is Fox's 8th season. After Cowher's 8th season, he had 77 wins, probably about 8 more than Fox will end up with this season. And this was mostly during the time when the AFC played to determine which team would get thrashed by the NFC champ. The AFC was incredibly weak at the time. Both had a conference championship under their belt.

The difference between the two record wise is not all that great.

Playoffs 6 of those first 8 years for Cowher. One or more playoff wins 4 times, not bad.

Playoffs 3 of the first 8 years for Fox. One or more playoff wins 2 times, not so good.

During Fox' tenure the NFC has won the Super Bowl twice, as the AFC won it twice in Cowher's first 8 years, making the NFC the team lining up to get thrashed by the AFC.

Cowher finally got his ring and left Pittsburg set up for another run...At the end of the day Cowher's teams always competed and their defenses were very good to great. Again, all this with crappy qb play. Cowher was rolling when he left and I think that setting on the sideline and observing will probably make him better.
