Shockey out for Sunday, Thomas questionable

Jeremy Shockey (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 17, meaning his season is over because New Orleans is out of the playoff race. Pierre Thomas (back) is questionable to face Carolina.

Shockey ends his first season in New Orleans with 50 grabs for 483 yards, but no scores. He battled injuries all year, missing four games, and did little field stretching. The Saints will likely hold off on upgrading Shockey's contract, something he wanted done in New York, but there's little chance he'll be cut. He's always an injury risk, but could be undervalued in 2009 fantasy drafts. Thomas didn't practice Friday and seems unlikely to play Sunday. Dec. 26 - 4:13 pm et

it's looking less and less likely that Pierre Thomas will play.

Also jesus christ, Shockey is worthless. I seem to remember some saints fan claiming how injury proof and awesome he was before the season started. Pity all those great conversations got lost.

Shockey out is a plus for the Saints, though the coaches may not recognize this, and this is no cause for rejoicing by Panther fans. TE Miller will get more playing time and knows how to run without stumbling and falling down without being hit.

Pierre Thomas, if healthy, is a fine runner; but McAllister still is a great player.

    • McConkey is such a better player than XL that it isn't out of the question that he'd have improved us by 1 win last year, which would have dropped us to 10th or 11th in the draft.  If we fell to 11th behind SF, they probably take him as they were heavily rumored to want him.  2 more wins and we fall to 11th or 12th, if we are 12th behind both the 49ers and Cowboys, then he's 100% taken by one of them. Also, drafting McConkey wouldn't have stopped us from getting Coker as an UDFA. So even if he was on the board when we were on the clock, I'm not sure we're taking him over a defensive player given how bad the defense was last year.  Part of why he was always the pick for me was that we had no legitimate long term WR option at the time, having McConkey changes that and makes going defense much more feasible.
    • Or a statue of him in a golf cart and you can sit next to him
    • I've said many times that if I had known in high school that long snapper was an NFL position I would have practiced that every day and did all could to get that contract. Sure the money is not starting QB level, but it is life changing and if you manage it right you and your kids will be set for life. Not to mention you have access to the highest level of medical staff. Plus, by rule, they can't hit you.
