So young.  What a tragedy, especially for his daughter.

Chris Smith,  one of the key components of the West Rowan football dynasty, died at 31 on Monday.  Smith’s death has been confirmed. Not much is known about the circumstances or the cause of death yet.  It’s a tragic loss for his family, friends, former teammates and for Rowan County. He had been the ultimate give-back guy and had been a generous donor to local schools and projects. He stayed close to his Rowan County roots no matter where his football odyssey took him.  Smith had signed a contract in March to play for the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL.  Smith starred as a defensive end for West Rowan head football coach Scott Young during the state championship seasons of 2008 and 2009 and was Shrine Bowl Defensive MVP in 2009.

Saw the name. Honestly can't remember him here. Guessing he wasn't around for long.

Always hate to hear when someone passes young like this.

    • If you took the crests off their jerseys I would've thought I was watching Gardner Webb's soccer team.  What an absolute unskilled, lazy and uninspired match from Real.
    • Panthers have 85 million in cap space for 2027, they could use a portion of that for signing FAs now. Simple EX, longer years with high guarantee/signing bonus. 30 million SB over 5 years is 6 million + min sal(1.__) thus the cap number for year one is 7.2. Year two or 2027 when the 85 million is there, base jumps up 10 + 6 pro-rated SB= 16 million cap number.  I believe they have many plans. If certain players agree to their numbers, you could see some contracts that use future tricks to borrow from 27+ to land 26 FAs.  I think the main plan is one big fish either Lloyd or a edge or even a LT. then wait for 2nd wave when prices drop hard. Sign about 4-10 bargain bin players and head to the draft with around 27 spots open....
    • I am on board with drafting a Center. However any scenario where we give an extension to our current QB means we can forget building a well rounded roster and maximize this young core. Especially considering most are suggesting he needs elite pieces across the board just to look servicable.
