If we let Fox walk and Cowher decides NOT to come....

Why not bring in Joe Gibbs. Ok stop your laughing.

For one this team is built like a Gibbs team you a balanced running game with a great receiver just need a #2 guy.

The defense is stout and only need a couple of extra players.

Gibbs could come in Coach for one year and take us to the supebowl. After that he can go back to racing. Which brings up another point he lives in the area so he wouldnt have to live in another city. This would help the Panthers as if there is a lockout in 2011 they wouldnt be on the hook for a coaching staff. Then in 2012 Gruden will ready to come back to football and we can hire him. Win/Win.

I think the real question with this is: Would Joe come back? He seems happy with running the Nascar team

Don't understand this perception.

Yes, Cowher likes to run the ball. But the defensive philosophy is 180 degrees of Fox.

Is it? I know that one likes the 4-3 and the other likes the 3-4, but basically both of them want hard hitting defense that get to the Qb, and force a lot of turnovers.

Fwiw, more often than not we have finished among the top ten in defense since Fox has been here.

I agree that Cowher isn't much different from Fox and that he's not a coaching god that will immediately lead us to multiple Super Bowls. However, his teams were much more consistent and made the playoffs much more often than Fox's teams. If Cowher kept our coordinators in place and kept our defense a 4-3 I'd be ok with him coming in.

For the record, I'd rather have Meeks, Davidson or Skip promoted. This team doesn't need to rebuild, clean house or radically change. It just needs a fresh voice at the top. I'd rather have someone from within the club take over, keep everything generally the same, and make the necessary adjustments. This team doesn't need a massive overhaul, just a few changes and upgrades.

OK, bring it closer to home. The Eagles and Panthers both run a 4-3. Do you think both teams play defense with the same philosiphy the last 5 years?
