Pete Carroll has officially resigned at USC

What a dumbass move.

Stay at USC he is one of the kings of LA.

Go to cold wet seattle to be a fail coach.

Dumb

I think this year might have gotten to him. Graduate all the players he did last year who are now killing it in the NFL this year as Rooks, then Sanchez leaves on him and leads the Jets to the Playoffs. Now you've got trouble finally coming down the road with Reggie Bush BS and maybe sanctions. It was a struggle this year for the Trojans with all the turnover and a Freshmen QB. Maybe it was time to go, he's done all he can do at USC.

How much did Seattle give him, $33 million? That's a lot of cash.

Lets hope he does better this time than before. His total record as a NFL head coach was 33-31 in the reg season and 1-2 in the postseason. And he got fired from 2 teams. Compare that to his tenure at USc where he went 97-19 during the season and 7-2 in bowl games.

I can't believe they gave him total control. They must be pretty desperate.

Well if he can get away with cheating in Seattle, he'll be just fine.

I'm here in the 805 & my grandpa(RIP) brought me up a USC fan. Sucks he's leaving but he brought us back last decade. Good luck to him.

Yeah this decade was crazy. Can't say bad things about him. I'm worried though about all of athletics, things are not looking good at all sadly. Hopefully the new coach can keep things rollin!

They'll be back eventually, but they're in a bad spot right now with all this turmoil. Live n learn I guess.

Or the writing was on the wall that the NCAA is about to reign down with violations on the program, and Carroll tok the 1st chance to bail and head to greener pastures.

The Reggie Bush investigation still hasn't wrapped up, and Joe Mcknight bolting early looks a little fishy.

That sucks. USC will just not be the same for the next couple years. :(

USC will be fine if they hire the right guy, the team is full of 4 and five star recruits despite the seniors and early draft declarations. Mike Riley seemed to be the guy they wanted till he signed a contract extension today, I think they will try to bring in Petersen from Boise State. Then again Mike Garrett despite being an amazing athlete in his day at USC is a bumbling fool as an AD, so maybe the Trojans really are in trouble. Whatever they do I hope they do it fast so they can try and get some of the recruits back on board.

Don't worry about the athletics, Kevin O has the Basketball program moving in the right direction and doing it the right way (without one and dones). Now if Garrett can get a pro style coach who is a great recruiter (I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one) the FB program will be just fine. It's still the University of Southern California, Pete Carroll cant take that with him to Seattle. It's still L.A. one of the largest sports and media markets in the world. It's still the gorgeous Cali weather and it's still going to be a great place for kids to go to get recognized by pro scouts. What the Trojans need to do is get the best possible HC in as soon as possible and work on talking kids like Kyle Prater, Dillon Baxter, Jesse Scroggins, Xavier Grimble and many more into attending the University of Southern California.

The truth is Pete Carroll was a great recruiter, his X's and O's were lacking and his huge ego that ran Norm Chow out of town caused the offense to become predictable and stale. I just hope we can land a guy like Petersen, just looking at what he has accomplished at Boise State while working with practically nothing as far as recruits go has me dreaming about the possibilities with USC's roster and resources. The USC Trojans will be fine, they may take a slight slide in 2010 but like always (and sorry to sound cheesy) they will "Fight On".

A change is a good as a rest & no doubt going to Seattle it will offer Carroll a few challenges he hasn't had to face at USC & as a coach I guess you like to challenge yourself.

Change will be good for both parties, I believe Carroll has become complacent coaching USC. Sure he won the big games but would get knocked off by an inferior Pac X team every year. Perhaps someone like Petersen or Jack Del Rio can motivate for EVERY game!

Could not agree more. He was a TERRIBLE NFL coach. And he's going into a situation where he doesn't have a QB. They are in bad shape.

He also has two top 15 picks to work with as well, so he can get a franchise QB. How funny it would be to see Jimmy Clausen be coached by CPC in the pros. He wasn't a terrible coach he was an average coach, he wasn't doing bad in NE they just brought in Bellicheat.....the problem is that Seattle is in a terrible rebuilding mode and they have hardly any young players to build around. I'll be shocked honestly if Taylor Mays isn't a Seahawk next year for better or worse, as Carroll will look to bring in some of his own guys that he has chemistry with.

    • I hate seeing this. I'm not sure he was ever going to make it in the NFL without the injury but that injury knocked FSU out of the college football playoffs and cost him and them and opportunity on the biggest stage in college sports. The injuries are the worst part of this game.
    • I don't know what Texas A&M was doing with their edge rushers. They had two freaks in Scourton and Shemar Stewart and yet instead of turning them loose they asked them to play 20 lbs overweight and just set the edge. That's full-on coaching malpractice at any level. Much was made about Shemar Stewart's lack of sack production, but while he wasn't my favorite prospect this year a lot of that was clearly what they were asking him to do. The good news with Scourton is that, unlike Stewart, did manage to be a huge factor as a pass rusher despite this and despite playing 20 lbs overweight. If he can stay around 260-265 it should help him re-gain some of that explosiveness from his Purdue days.
    • I did, but again we're aware of the practice in college of inflating height/weight as well as what is considered normal and his freshman weight tells a lot. There was a recent Raw Room episode where at one point they were discussing putting on their "big boy weight" when they go to the pros. It's common for guys to have to slap on 20lbs over the summer, but King Dunlap mentioned having to put on 30 and how much of a toll that took on his body. That makes the idea of putting on 50 at the college level even harder to believe. I've got experience with cutting weight and that type of drop sounds just awful... and that's even if doing it healthy and not just turning yourself into a piece of human jerky. Having to add 50? Noooooo thank yoooou. I can understand wanting to take Scourton at face value, but we didn't take Bryce at face value either (and for good reason!). Give the recently posted videos a shot. I watched the one you linked even though I've already seen it, so why not extend the same courtesy? I think you'll find yourself getting more excited about his Purdue tape than you will being irritated by what you believe are false narratives being pushed. 😄
