2010 season is looking more and more like a throw-away season...

Half agree

I'm not feeling this relationship we got going on with Fox. All that you're on a short leash, and theories of him leaving stuff. Its just one big distraction. IMO he should just leave. Let us go find another HC

All that winning the Superbowl, highly doubt it. With Fox we're not winning any Superbowls... can't see it. I think it will take a change at that position to get one. If we win one, great. I'll eat crow, proved me wrong. But I dont think so. Im upset how this season went just over one thing that Fox totally ignored

I think we'll either just miss the playoffs again, or get in and lose

You're about half a year late in preparing for a throw away season.

We finished 8-8 this year. With our week schedule next year, we're playoff bound, baby!

I forgot, next year is supposed to be John Fox's "good" season

wrong. sure way to screw up a business.

It would be idiotic to let somebody "run the show" and then leave them hanging on the last year of their contract. If he ran the show he would have either been extended or fired.

Which is why we're in the predicament we're in now...business IS screwed up! It doesn't really matter if he is hands-off or on anyway. JR is to blame for "inviting" coaches back instead of wanting them back or firing them. That's the point I'm trying to make.

When the only person you can get to agree with you is G-man, it is this thread which is a throwaway.

I don't agree with most of your assumptions. Richardson is not a hand offs owner. No one who runs a franchise worth almost a billion dollars would be. But he does have people who are paid to handle the details. But he knows what is going on and has a say in everything. He just does it behind the scenes and out of the press.

Fox is going to have a big year as are the Panthers. Not based on their schedule but based on the momentum they found and the coaches they hired,(meeks in particular). What we have missed since 2006 is a good defense and we have that now. The offense will be upgraded at wide receiver. Fox is playing for an extension or an audition for his next job so the team will be primed and ready to go. Moore will be ready given this is his big chance to start.

The point of inviting the coaches back was to give the President time to make his evaluations and not throw out the good with the bad. What has Pittsburgh done? Fired an offensive line coach?? Big deal. They haven't made big changes either. Everyone talks a good game but in the end do little.

You can doom and gloom all you want but 2009 was the throw away season. We found our defense, the quarterback of the future, have 2 1000 yard rushers and once we shore up the wide receiver spot will have exactly what we need to go deep in the playoffs.

Frankly I couldn't disagree with your asesssment more.

I think we are somewhat "happy" because we may have found a franchise QB in Matt Moore. We were out of the playoffs a while ago.. so we have something to look forward to.. so in a sense, we are happy or excited. But, the Steelers.. they actually had a shot at the playoffs up until the end, and they have a QB that has already won 2 super bowls.. and they were the probably the favorite to defend their title.

Because the owner should be the one with his hand in everything. Jerry lets Fox run the show.

That's a pretty big assumption, IMO. I'm sure JR is not micro managing the team, but I seriously doubt that he's just sitting back and letting Hurney and Fox do whatever the hell they want whether he approves of it or not either.

I don't really care who agrees with me. I'm sure many people don't want to believe that 2010 has a really good chance of being a throwaway season, especially at having to endure one in 2009 because of Fox who chose to stick with a failing QB. Also, I think people don't want to believe Delhomme will start again, which is really capable of happening.

Every excuse I'm hearing for Fox was the same thing repeated last year. Fox was coaching for an extension last year. He wouldn't risk his job over Delhomme yet he did. I'm not saying the Panthers won't do good next year, which depends on quite a few things anyway. I'm saying right now, it looks like we're more worried about Fox's ability to not f*** up than his ability to win us a Super Bowl. In essence, we're giving Fox the "Jake Delhomme" treatment...we're trying to play around him. This is the mentality most have, "We have Meeks who has made our defense top 10, we got Beason, T.Davis, Double Trouble, Matt Moore, Steve Smith, We finished strong!...we should have a great year next year, right?" What people don't realize is how easily things can get f***ed up...Peppers leaving and the defense falters? T.Davis signing with someone else(doubt it though), Delhomme starting? Playcalling? No 2nd half adjustments? The 2009 Season wasn't just the last 5 games, there was 16 games that we played.

From all these crap reports coming out, it would seem like JR doesn't trust Fox. I think JR doesn't want to take the hits of cutting Fox and Delhomme so he is just going to bid his time and wait a year. But, we all know that more than likely, Fox/Hurney/Delhomme will be gone after 2010.

We are happier because we finshed 4-1 against teams in the playoff hunt with the exception of New Orleans and we pasted them. No one was happy with 8-8 but the way we finished gives up plenty of hope for next year. I am reminded of 2004 when we finished 6-2 to only go 7-9 for the year but it gave us momentum which set us up to go 11-5 in 2005 and deep in the playoffs.

I disagree with this thread... I think we have the potential to be huge next year and there is no doubt in my mind we make the playoffs next year. I know this is beating a dead horse but look at John Fox after a bad season like this he's great. As long as Moore is our QB, we will be in the playoffs.

Well I do agree with the bolded. I'm happy that Matt Moore turned out great. I think alot of people(including myself) are excited because a simple and obvious QB change turned this team around. I just think Matt Moore shouldn't define the 2009 season as a winning season. It was still a disappointment.

Just about every team has the potential to make the playoffs. But, I think coaching is hampering this team from making that next step. Also, because our franchise likes to work behind the scenes, we know NOTHING about what's going on.

Trivia Question: If Jake Delhomme starts, do we make the playoffs?

Also, I think the reason why I made this thread might be misinterpreted. I'm predicting unless something spectacular happens like going to the Super Bowl or starting out hot like 11-0 (either not likely to happen), Fox/Hurney/Jake will be gone after 2010.

Again, I disagree with all your assumptions. Fox wasn't on the hot seat or playing for his job this year, we went 12-4 last year. Hello??????

And your assumptions about Fox are wrong in my opinion. He wants a superbowl just like anyone else. He backed Jake to come back big time and he didn't. Injury or saving face, who knows, but we went with Moore and things went well. Next year he has the ability to start off where we left off in a sense.

It has nothing to do with JR trusting Fox. We have gone over this in several threads. It is primarily allowing the President to do his job and decide where we are headed. Plus with the lockout looming, it seems clear that maybe we don't need a coach if we are not playing. I suspect that Richardson has a better pulse on that, than most folks and it should be a real concern.

And your scenarios like Thomas Davis leaving aren't reality based given that he is a restricted free agent this year. If Peppers walks then we have 20 million to bring in other folks. And if Jake starts it only means he will be playing his best in years otherwise Moore would have won the job.

As for Hurney Fox or Delhomme leaving after 2010, what does that have to do with 2010 which is what we are discussing?

Once again you are kitchen sinking mixed in with chicken little sky is falling logic. Wait until there is something is whine and complain about. It is still January for crying out loud. And if you didn't care what anyone thought you wouldn't throw out a thread a page long and defend it all day long. it would just help to get your facts stright next time and argue from facts instead of inaccurate speculation.

Overall this thread is a fail.
