NFC South is better than the NFC East. And we have Proof

I had a conversation this afternoon with high-ranking official from an NFC South team -- I can’t reveal the source, and you’ll understand why in a minute, and we are not talking the New Orleans Saints here.

“You know, I get a little sick of hearing so much about the NFC East,’’ the official said. “Do me a favor and look up how many teams we’ve had in the NFC Championship Game. I bet it’s more than the NFC East.’’

I looked it up and he’s right. Since the NFL went to its current division format in 2002, the NFC South has sent six teams to the NFC Championship Game, including the Saints this season. The NFC East has sent five -- and let's include a shout-out to our friends in Dallas: The Cowboys represent zero in that equation -- with four trips by Philadelphia and one by the Giants.

Yep, the NFC South has sent a team to six of the eight championship games since the division has come into existence, including each of the first five seasons. Tampa Bay won the NFC Championship Game on its way to the division’s only Super Bowl title in the 2002 season and Carolina won it a year later before losing to New England in the Super Bowl.

Atlanta, Carolina and New Orleans followed that up the next three years, but didn’t make it past the NFC title game.

For the record, in that same span, the NFC North, including the Vikings this year, has sent three teams to the title game. The NFC West has sent two.

    • Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
    • And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.
    • This thread is dumb. But I do think canales gets too cute with play calling and I don't think he's a good coach
