Don't we gauge qbs on SB rings?

Then Aikman deserves to be up there. As does Bradshaw, Montanna, Staubach and sneak Manning in there.

No. i think thats a horrible misconception. In that case Trent Dilfer would be over Dan Marino. I base my QBs on how good of a QB they are. rings are great. they gage success. and i know great QBs are successful, But i want to know who plays the position the best. and thinking it over. Peyton should be higher on my list. And how about helping me out people. where are your lists???

(first off i did say that i would have debatable material) Manning's career isn't over yet. when he retires he will be #1. and after this Sunday I think he will be even higher.

That's why I asked. Manning already has the edge over Young in seemingly everything.

All of these things are subjective, selective, and debatable. The QB rating system the league uses is worthless. I'll take the great QBs who put up big numbers while winning from the past over those of the present aytime. The present rating system discriminates against the older QBs accomplishments. That's why any mention of "Top 20" QBs based on the ratings exclude some of the greatest ever, like Unitas. I'm not taking away anything from today's players, but the guys who accomplished great things when the rules and the field layout worked against them have to be given their due, and they get it from me! I've lived long enough to see all of the ones below play, except for Graham.

My top 10:

Johnny U.

John Elway

Roger Staubach

Otto Graham

Terry Bradshaw

Bart Starr

Peyton Manning

Joe Montana

Brett Favre

Fran Tarkenton

It's hard for me to not have Marino on this list. Everyone on my list has at least one world championship to their credit, except for Tarkenton. I include him because he got so far on teams that were often less than stellar overall. He made things happen with his scrambling and a good, but not great, arm. He finally had a decent team under him in the early to mid-70s' (Vikes), and he got them to the SB three times.

Elway took 3 teams to the Super Bowl (that lost) that had no business being there. They got their because of him.

Graham's record in getting his Browns into the post season speaks for itself.

Bradshaw? Four rings. 'Nough said!

Starr wasn't known as a 'pure passer', but he was an extraordinary leader and exceptionally smart. When the Pack's running game was shut down, Starr was a good enough passer to lead his team to the win most times. Five world championships, including three in a row.

Unitas, more so than all the others, helped define what the modern QB is, and should be, all about. He practically invented the 2-minute offense, and his leadership set himself apart from all others at the position. I still believe that had he started SB III, the Colts beat the Jets handily. But I obviously can't prove that.

If we are gauging it by who played the position the best then it's Manning hands down and he ain't done yet fellas!

Aikman ended up with a career stat wise similar to Brad Johnson. Is Brad Johnson a top 10 QB? Aikman had a hall of fame receiver, hall of fame running back, and one of the best Olines ever but still only managed very average numbers all but a few years.

1. Montana

2. Manning

3. Marino

4. Elway

5. Unitas

6. Tarkenton

7. Starr

8. Staubach

9. Young

10. Brady

John Elway is the best QB that has ever walked on this earth. Manning can pass him in #'s, but Elway was a mix of pure talent and leadership that no one else has had. He was Joe Montana with the best arm the league has ever seen.
