The hurricanes front office is, indeed looking to make a trade for a goalie. Per sources, they recognize the window is now and their goaltending is second worst only to Edmonton. I wouldn’t be shocked in the coming weeks or maybe a month we don’t see a move.

That basically confirms to me we aren’t getting Freddie back for the foreseeable future if at all. ~5 million is our max number if we can move Raanta without dealing another piece.

Interesting given the fact the Hurricanes said Thursday Freddie was working his way back and close to returning to practice. This was stated by Steve Levy on ESPN+ during last night's game just prior to puck drop.

Who are the trade candidates? I'm going Pesce, Drury and Raanta. Not all 3 in a deal obviously, but I can see the list of possibles if someone asked.

Drury raanta Tony D. Necas was really good on that 4th line so he is out. Pesce is too valuable. We just need league average. 
 

maybe a draft pick?  We can score now. We have those guys. Just a goalie. That’s all.

Tony D might be too toxic at his salary.

Pesce was being shopped before the season. No reason to think he's off the market now, especially as he and Skjei are both UFAs after the season. Chatty is ready for a promotion and could easily slip into the second pair with Skjei. Then you have Orlov and TDA as the 3rd pair (although that could be disastrous).

There’s not a whole lot of teams out there that are going to move a number one this early into the season. Most teams are still trying to figure out if they are a playoff contender or not.

I only see a couple options…

The cheap option is Petr Mrazek and the expensive option is John Gibson.

Huh, I missed that. I don’t imagine us moving anything if Freddie is coming back. Maybe people in the building are just being hopeful but man, blood thinners are a professional athlete killer.

Not always, Stamkos came back from his clot.

Albeit, I’d retire if I was Freddie. Being on blood thinners while playing a sport where guys are flying around with knives on their feet isn’t exactly something I’d sign up for.

I also don’t think Stamkos is on thinners. His clot was caused by organs pressing on veins, it was corrected with surgery. Vasilevsky actually suffered from the same issue.

Not sure if Freddie has this issue or something entirely different.

Edit - He actually is on blood thinners. Dangerous game to be playing.

Anywho, I’d call up Anaheim and see what they want for Gibson.

If something like a first round pick, Raanta, and Ponomarev/Suzuki can get it done then I’d probably do it. If the Ducks ask for Nikishin, Morrow, or FUS then I’d pivot to Mrazek and see if he could be had for a third or fourth round pick.

Hell no to Mrazek. He is done and gives you the same and Koochie. Gibson is very interesting though. What about MAF?

Mrazek is way better than MAF.

Mrazek has proven success with our team, system, and defense. He also has a .900 on a bad Blackhawks team which is way better than what Raanta and Kochetkov are putting up on a good Carolina team.
