Give The Saints They're Due

Thanks to the OP. Believe it or not....some of us Saints fans were actually pulling for the Panthers when you were in the Super Bowl. I've been a Saints fan since 1967. I've waited a very long time for this. There will be no gloating from me.

This was the happiest football week-end of my life because Rickey Jackson finally was selected to the HOF. For you guys too young to know or remember, he was a helluva tough player. LT himself said that Rickey was the only other linebacker as good as him.

It was a good week-end to be a Saints fan. :)

I can never root for the Saints, even in the Superbowl. However, I will give you your props for winning it.

I do want to say that I am not afraid of the Saints. Just because they are world champs doesn't make them the best team in the league and next season will be an uphill battle for the Saints because you are now a huge target to take out of the playoff hunt.

Here to give props and make a few observations from the game.

The Saints played a very nice game on both sides of the ball last night.

1. They started out a little slow and I thought the blow-out by the Colts might be in the cards.

2. The Colts DL was getting alot of pressure on Brees early...Freeny had a nice first half.

3. Payton and his staff did an excellent job adjusting during halftime.

4. Loved the onside kick-off to start the 2nd half. Gutsy call. It really swung the momentum to the Saitns favor. It was high risk...as it could have swung momentum clearly in the Colts favor. You are in the big game...loved how Payton was willing to roll the dice.

5. I was very impressed with the Saints Defense. Manning had periods where he looked to be a machine. However, the Saints Defense stepped up and made plays to stall drives when they needed them.

6. The Saints OL made nice adjustments in their blocking scheme and gave Brees nice pockets and time in the 2nd half.

7. The Saints Offense played about like I thought they would.....but, the defense stepped up.

Congrats to the Saints.

Congrats to the Saints fans. However, beware....we are coming for you next season.

As a rival, I sure wasn't rooting for the Saints (no longer the Aints).

Payton's playcalling was gutsy, excellent, and worthy of a super bowl.

Brees was fantastic from the 2nd quarter on.

the big mistake was made by Peyton, surprisingly.

You guys won, pure and simple. You were the better team. Enjoy the Lombardi. Wish we had one.

Why? One of the most loyal fan bases in the NFL. Maybe the Panthers should take note at how to have fun at a football game and actually become the 12th man.

Except when the Saints were losing and all of the fans came to games with bags on the heads. The fans are loving this win...and they should. However, don't act like all Saints fans have stood behind their team all those years.....as I don't call wearing a bag and booing as supporting my team during the lean times.

Agreed... Matter-of-fact, weren't they thinking of moving the Saints permanently at one point because of their low attendance numbers?

Why do people act like if you didn't pop out of your moms crotch with a stamped of your fav team your not a real fan. A real fan is just about sticking with their team win or lose, nothing more. The Panthers have countless bandwagon fans. Before the super bowl our fan base was not even close to what it is now, not even close. And another losing season and probably around 1/3 will be gone.

Its like this for pretty much all teams except what I call the 'foundation teams', so there is no reason to single out the saints.

There are a lot of crappy panther fans on this forum who act like this is some sort of fight and battle like a 12 year old playing WOW. Like it really matters if you hate an opposing teams fans, your not even playing the game making a difference, the players all who for the most part realize its just a game and all get along. So many just looking like a dumbass.

I know there are a lot of trashy, lowly panther fans but some of the things I am hearing is just credulousness.

In fact I am out of this board, its just one big herd of small redneck children obsessed with the words classy (ironic) and piss-poor, trash talking other teams to the point of supporting catastrophes that have taken loved ones's live.

I really hope Charlotte isn't the new NO, Oakland, Philly. But with all these trashy fans it's inevitable.Something I rarely say but frankly, I am just too good for this.

I was not trying to single out the Saints. I was merely contradicting the one post that said we should take notes from Saints fans how how to support a team.

There are alot of diehard Saints fans who have stuck with them through thick and thin. There was also a large portion who mocked their team by booing and wearing bags. My point is that Saints fans are not the pure definition of support that they are ALL now claiming to be.

There are just two things I hate about this win, the fact that I haven't been able to turn on ESPN for 2 weeks and probably won't be able to for another 2 weeks without hearing about how much of a shithole New Orleans is and that everyone of my friends who has never had any interest in football and couldn't name a starter on the Saints besides Drew Brees is suddenly celebrating their victory.

We get it, the Saints winning is supposed to be a feel good story for a shithole city, you don't have to keep ramming it down our throats for a month.
