Brees is the best QB in the NFL

Just because the Saints won the Super Bowl? That makes them the better team but says nothing about individual players. Brees is a very good QB and among the elite today but not the best. That doesn't mean he can't become the best and very well could but he just isn't there yet.

In all honesty, it's hard to say this when Brady has 3 rings and Big Ben has 2. And while I really don't like Ben or the Steelers, Ben would have never got thrown around like Brees did by Freeny on that one play in the SB.

Lame argument; Brees wouldn't have been throwing picks left and right like Big Ben does...it's a wash

If you want to hear how good Brees is then go to the Stainsreport or whatever it is. Is Brees gonna lead his team to that outstanding 7-9 record from 07 or the killer 8-8 record from 08 again next year? Probably close to it, what he won't do is lead his teams CONSISTANTLY then he is still one level down from Brady and Manning. All three of these guys are system QB's, but Brady and Manning could work in any system, with any talent around. Sean Payton did a good job this year balancing out the offense and putting emphasis on the defense, and with a lack-luster NFL year, everything fit into place to win the championship. Do it a couple more times before you put Brees above the two best ever.

If i was building a team and had to choose one of those QB's to lead me for the next 10 years, i might put Brees at the top.

Manning: How much longer is he going to play? Could be a while. He hasnt been hit much over his career and that definitely helps his longevity.

Favre: no way

Brady: Very big question mark in my mind when it comes to his health these days. The guy has been hurt quite a bit the last few years. Is that an isolated thing? Or will this trend continue? If its not, id probably pick Brady over Brees.

Lame argument? Really. Comparing QB's based on number of championships is probably the only real way of comparing these guys. Its the same reason Marino, maybe the best QB ever, isn't in the same conversation as Montana, Elway and Aikman. Winning one Super Bowl puts Brees in the same conversation as Farve and Manning, both Eli and Peyton, not better. Two will get him in with Ben and three will get him in with Brady. Until his thumb is the only finger without a ring on it he isn't the clear best in the NFL.

i will argue the fact that he is currently the reigning super bowl MVP and just won a super bowl, therefore, he is currently the best QB in the league right now.

Had peyton done it, it would be him, had matt moore done it, it would be him. Had jake done it, it would be him...

ok maybe not jake...

brees can vanish for entire halves at a time, then go nuts in a quick span. he's like JR Smith of the NFL

I'd put him behind Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger, Rogers, Rivers, and maybe Schaub, but Matt has better people catching the ball.

5,000 yds+ and he vanishes entire halves. Guy makes the best decisions PERIOD in the NFL.

    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
    • Guessing the price is too rich here given the injury history.  2024 was brutal and production dropped off in 2025 with a few more injuries (albeit rough qb play).    Don’t really understand the narrative that Young can’t benefit from talented upgrades on offense. Especially here with respect to a tight end. Any QB will benefit from talented receivers that threaten the top of coverage and tight ends with skills to stress zone.    The age and injury history, coupled with what he’s likely asking, just probably means we can better spend that money elsewhere.
