WCNC reporting no tag for Peppers via team source

lol g5jamz brings up a running back who sucks, one without a brain, and a player about to get franchised whoops

The Steelers are nearing use of the franchise tag on would-be free agent NT Casey Hampton.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the sides are working on a multi-year deal, but the tag has always been more likely for the 32-year-old. Like Vince Wilfork, Hampton will be in line for a $7.003M salary once he's tagged.

WTF are you saying dude???

You don't take one part of a intricate situation and then try to apply that one point to other situations to prove a point...

If thats the case just trade every young stud before their new contract. Are you a retard??

This is not a farm system

Nothing he said is retarded. Williams is in a contract year, will command big money and splits carries with a much younger back who is almost equally talented which reduces his stats. He's a top 3 back but doesn't get noticed because he plays on a small team.

There is a very real chance he doesn't want to re sign here. Trade talks are anything but retarded.

Julius Peppers is our best past rusher. He is a physical specimen. He gives OL nightmares. However, Julius Peppers has made 13, 14, 17 million dollars the last 3 years for 27.5 sacks. Its obvious that Peppers agent thinks JP should get even more than the Freeney contract. Let them see if they can get it. Let us spend that money on upgrading WR, signing Beason to a long term, locking up some more players on the OLine and at RB. See if TD is recovered from ACL and then lock him up also. Even have some money left to maybe sign Matt Moore long term after he leads us to 7-1 start.

You said it yourself Peppers isn't the heart of our defense. Who would you rather give that money too? Peppers or Beason?

If this means we can keep Double Trouble, Moore, our FA's, and get some quality FA's in, I am all for it. Peppers is one of if not our best player, but he is not the Carolina Panthers. It is sad to see him go but at least he gave us some good years first. E. Brown better be doing some serious conditioning is all I have to say.

People like to get emotionally attached to players and take it out on people here...

In no way am I comparing DeAngelo to Westbrook...LT...Hampton...but in terms of a team love to a player...and the teams decisions to keep them in leiu of cap hits...it's perfectly comparable.

People need to think ahead. Smitty would probably be a better comparison on getting what we can while we can...I just know that DeAngelo has greater upside tradewise right now due to his age.

Lol watch Peppers go and sign a 2-3 year deal for 18 million. He may just have his head up his ass folks, there is something that he's looking for, possibly a certain team or type of defense. On the other hand it is still possible that he sings long term if we are still offering a contract.

But if he doesn't want to be a Panther than so be it. I will enjoy watching us beat him and his new team down when we get to play them.

Trading him at that point ala Richard Seymnour would have been the way to go.

But the problem is nobody would give us anything when we try that last year. Even if we franchise him again, chances are it will be the same way like last time. It just not worth it's anymore. We need to use some of the money so we can lock up Davis. M.Moore, etc.

Word. Keeping Moore, Double Trouble, & others is better than not being able to keep some if we franchised Pep again.

He had better do roids and grow a foot taller as well.

He will get bigger. He is only 22 years old and has not had a complete off season in training with NFL specialists. Of course he is going to come up with the motivation part on his own but I think he has that is covered. People seem to forget Brown is just a kid, still time to grow and get bigger, which I promise you he will and you will notice by next year. Even Peppers was A LOT smaller and lankier when he was a rookie, given he had natural height.

People would also say Smitty is undersized but as we all know all you need is a beast inside. Hell look at Jones Drew, pretty much defies physics.

    • Of course, everyone has film. That is probably fresh in their mind though. Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division.  and if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
