Question about root canals and wisdom teeth...

I have a few that need to be taken care of, ASAP. Are they really as bad as people make them out to be? Not that it will influence anything, just curious.

No, I have had NUMEROUS root canals, and they don't bother me at all. The sooner you get them done, the quicker the procedure should be. Naps are awesome afterward.

Can't help you on the wisdom teeth part though, I still got mine.

Root canals arent that bad just a pain sitting there that long. getting your wisdom teeth pulled depends on the tooth roots. Had one where they where pronged out it was a SOB to get out and also the cracking of the tooth noise is annoying.

ive had several root canals and honestly it depends. if they are infected, it can be pretty painful. once they numb you up, it doesnt hurt. it just can take a long time (i have spent hours at the dentist office...like 3-4 hours).

plus it is crazy expensive. i have insurance and still have to pay a nice chunk.

If you wait to long to get a root canal done, you're fugged.

Waited too long once, got a massive infection/cyst grew in my mouth/upper lip swelled up like a balloon/had to go to the emergency room cause I had a 104 temp from the infection/spent about 4 hours in surgery.

Not fun.

if you avoid your teeth..they will go away- good luck. Had one root canal and it wasn't that bad. Thankfully the nerve was toast.

Wisdom teeth were impacted but God those were the greatest drugs ever. And I know my drugs.

Didn't take care of my teeth when I was younger and I'm paying for it now. Had two teeth pulled last week, going back next week for a root canal.

Can't speak about root canals but getting my wisdom teeth out was a breeze... I only took ONE pain killer the whole time. Mainly, the thing to worry about is not the pain but the blood.

I brush twice a day now, but when I was younger I neglected it. Now I will be paying for it. I'm just going to get them pulled instead of a root canal. It's cheaper.

i brush my teeth everyday, twice a day. flossed for awhile, used listerine, etc. dont drink soda or eat candy yet still ended up with cavities (have had at least 5 root canals and need more now). dentist says it probably is genetic since everyone in my family is like that.

I had to have 5 wisdom teeth cut out. The 3 days after were the worst days of my life. After that it really isn't that big of a deal.

I had a root canal done when I was like 7 or 8 I can't quite remember. Anyways, I do remember it hurting EXTREMELY bad, but this was because the dentist did not give me enough anesthetic and I needed more. He refused to give me any more.

To top it off, years later my current dentist looked at my old records and said I never needed one in the first place.

Others have told me they aren't so bad. Just remember, when it comes to anesthetic more is better than less. Being comfortably numb and then getting a real shock when he his a sensitive pocket is no fun.

My wife had three of her wisdom teeth taken out about 5 years ago... the Dr. wouldn't take out the 4th. About a year later, that 4th one got infected so she had to have it removed. The Dr. severed the jaw nerve when he took it out... she had to have an additional surgery to repair that nerve... she lost feeling in that side of her jaw and tongue... just make sure the doctor checks your nerves around those teeth and is careful about it.

I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was about 17... it was a breeze.
