Why carolina can not* afford to lose Burns

I'm hoping we can get either a 2nd this year and future 2nd or 3rd.

Or maybe a player and later pick. If Cinci would be willing to trade Higgins and a 3rd or 4th this year it would be enticing.  Getting Higgins would open up that 33 pick for something other than WR.  Maybe a pass rusher.

Higgins isn't under contract and neither is Burns, so some oddball dual franchise-and-trade would have to happen. Would be a rather unique happening.

Did burns play under the tag last year?  I felt like it was just his last year under contract so.. Franchise tag is on the table. Higgins on the other hand could also be tagged.

He played under the 5th year option. He would now be an unrestricted FA if the team doesn't tag and/or re-sign him.

Panthers offseason recap: Every move made by Carolina in 2024 (usatoday.com)

Good thing we put that to good use. Clowney, Wonnun, Jewell, and some of the worst tackling safeties I've ever seen are really cooking.

Still wouldn't make a lick of difference lmfao.... except we ain't got 5 years on the hook with any of them. Keep pushing that 8 million a sack though

The off-season moves improved the team. The free agent signings were worth it. We're going to draft great players with those picks we got for Burns.

Ejiro Evero talks about Panthers’ familiar free-agent signings (usatoday.com)

Quote

They’ll all look to add to the defense that allowed the fourth-fewest total yards in 2023.

Quote

“The defense is gonna be a little bit different than how we played it in Denver, how we played it at the LA Rams,” Evero added. “So from that standpoint, it’s gonna be a little bit of an adjustment. But havin’ those guys on our team right now is such a huge step forward for us.”

    • Why not? Dude was tough as nails. Came off the field after a vicious hit and showed the coach how his ring finger was knocked out of socket halfway up. You could see the shock on Fox's face. Brad just  pulled  on the finger, grimaced, got it back in alignment and went back in for the next play and blew up an opposing linebacker or two. Dude is legendary.
    • Motown let on like he'd like to play at least another 5 years in his presser. I fell he was truthful and us fans over did his knee. The guy started like 108 starts in a row and only missed like 2 games over each of the past years.  I think as long as the team agrees with his value that Motown has, he will sign another contract extension to push the void years into the 2030s.  OLmen can play at high levels up til 40. Trent williams is doing it, Richie Incognito leftd and came back to play until he hit 38. Lane Johnson is still playing at a top level while 38. You member Greg Van Roten, he's somehow still playing at 36 and he started here after being a substitute teacher years before. If you are able to get over the 32 year bump, its possible to reach 38 with luck. Colleges do a poor job of preparing new OLmen, many times that vet is better.   Rams were begging Andrew Whitworth to come back while he was 39, if you got the genes, luck and still willing to put in the hard work....it is possible to play until 38 as a OLmen*starting level*
    • Shaq was a fantastic LB, he just happened to have been standing in the shadow of a Panthers great and a Hall of Famer. He was team-lead starter quality for all 32 teams of the NFL. Don't throw shade on him, he was never just a guy.
