Philip Rivers Vs the MVP

Yeah I'm a big fan of tying up 22 million in cap hit for one player, which is what I heard Manning's hit is next year.

With no CBA in place, they have to take it, cause they can't defer any of the money to future caps.

FB: I'm sure you'll love Vic Ketchman's reply about Manning's game Saturday.

In Ketchman’s latest (and always-compelling) Q&A, a fairly innocuous remark from Mark in Boise pushed Ketchman’s “overrated” button.

Said Mark: “Manning did his job. Defense not only wins championships, it loses them.”

Said Ketchman in response: “Manning did his job? What is it with you Peyton Manning apologists? He was nearly intercepted four times and three of those should’ve been intercepted and returned for touchdowns.

“The only play he made in the second half was catching the Chargers off guard and lobbing a touchdown pass to an uncovered receiver. In his last four possessions, with the game on the line and the Colts only needing one more score to clinch the win, Manning managed a total of 20 plays for 38 net yards. Hey, that’s crunch time, baby.

“A day after he wins the league MVP, he gags with the game on the line and does his usual one-and-done routine. When are you people gonna get off your knees? The guy is 7-8 in career postseason games and six times he’s lost in the first playoff game of that year’s postseason; three times in the last four years. Manning did not do his job. His job is to win. His job is to get it done at crunch time.”

(Vic, quit being so damn coy. You really need to come out of that shell and assert yourself.)

Frankly, we’re stunned. But we approve that message.

We think we’ll read it again. And again.

To be fair, Rivers didn't play like much of an MVP. No TD's, 1 pick, 217 yds passing. The Chargers didn't score much and when they did it was because of Sproles. The Chargers had way more rushing yards and return yards than the Colts. Peyton had to score with no run game starting inside his own 10. He still matched Rivers for 60 minutes.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
