D Lineman? Former first round pick? About to be released? Reclamation project?

Welcome to carolina!

espn's adam schefter reports the raiders are expected to release rb justin fargas and dt gerard warren before their roster bonuses are due "in the coming days."

this comes as a surprise, considering fargas' standing with coach tom cable. Then again, all the raiders' moves of late have been head-scratchers. The 30-year-old fargas has been a replacement-level back the past two seasons, so the raiders will be better off without him. Pending further backfield moves, fargas' release will boost the fantasy stock of darren mcfadden and michael bush. Mar. 4 - 10:44 am et

Sorry but no. G warren is getting old and is not worth taking a risk on. We got to many young guys on our Dline right now that needs to have a chance to fight for a postion. Adding warren will make things more confusing then they are now. No thanks.

did we pick up a struggling DE off Oakland's line a few years ago?

tyler brayton has worked out pretty well for us...

Brayton was WAY different than Warren. Brayton was struggling because the Raiders had moved him to DE, DT, OLB, then back to a hybrid DE/DT. He was just never really given a chance to play a single position for more than one year.

:yikes: Yea but brayton is younger then Warren. Warren is like in his 30s now. He is to old now. Plus like I said we have to many other guys on the Dline that deserves a chance at a spot on the team. So no TY.:smilielol5:

Good Lord.

...?

fox and hurney picked up brayton off of Oakland's defensive line before the beginning of the 2008 season... he was a former first round pick from the 2003 season, and widely considered a bust, with his season record in sacks at 2.5

in his first year with us he notched 4.5 sacks and a bunch of tackles and he's been effective as a starter ever since.

i don't see how the comparison isn't noteworthy.

Because Warren has never shown flashes and has been passed around like the town pony while Brayton was only with one team ever. Brayton was also significantly younger and coming off his first contract.

Failure at one team could be a problem of system/coaching. When you've failed at three different teams, there's not much hope for the light suddenly coming on.

    • McConkey is such a better player than XL that it isn't out of the question that he'd have improved us by 1 win last year, which would have dropped us to 10th or 11th in the draft.  If we fell to 11th behind SF, they probably take him as they were heavily rumored to want him.  2 more wins and we fall to 11th or 12th, if we are 12th behind both the 49ers and Cowboys, then he's 100% taken by one of them. Also, drafting McConkey wouldn't have stopped us from getting Coker as an UDFA. So even if he was on the board when we were on the clock, I'm not sure we're taking him over a defensive player given how bad the defense was last year.  Part of why he was always the pick for me was that we had no legitimate long term WR option at the time, having McConkey changes that and makes going defense much more feasible.
    • Or a statue of him in a golf cart and you can sit next to him
    • I've said many times that if I had known in high school that long snapper was an NFL position I would have practiced that every day and did all could to get that contract. Sure the money is not starting QB level, but it is life changing and if you manage it right you and your kids will be set for life. Not to mention you have access to the highest level of medical staff. Plus, by rule, they can't hit you.
