Kemo cut

Can't buy into that. You don't start rebuilding if you're only assured of one year.

First thing that comes to mind for me? This guy...

+1. Gotta think Meeks wants a younger, faster, more agressive D-line to go with his linebackers.

JR is part of the owners that are spending less money this season to lead by example for the rest of the league...Show smart spending habits to help out the league and the other owners.... The're going to cut as much cap in the uncapped season as possible, to lower payroll for future seasons and this season as well.

This isn't exactly true. JR doesn't want to go hog wild on a spending spree but that doesn't mean he wants to spend less than in previous years. What the owners are asking for is that the % of what players make is between 45% and 50% of the total revenue. Right now that % is at 62%. However, the league has shown an increase in revenue of well over 400% since the creation of the salary cap. By 2011, the projected salary cap at 45% would be the same amount of cash as it was in 2009.

It really has nothing to do with paying players less money.

It has a lot to do with players making less money, an average of close to a million a season per player will get cut off with the drop down. Team's average 30 million in profits on the books in 2008. (the highest revenue ever in NFL history.) Went down in the 2009 season by a lot.... Revenue was down quite a bit in 2009 for NFL teams compared to the 2008 season.

If you don't think the CBA squabble is about owners wanting players to make less and owners to make more.....Then I don't know what to tell you....

The owners are the one who opted out of the CBA for this uncapped year and the majority of teams are going to cut cap... That's the point of it all. Strong arm players into agreeing with the deal.

This is all about allowing teams that are in serious debt problems to get back on their feet. ( I mean the dolphins are 400 million in debt right now, and there not the only team that's losing money or having financial problems.) Couple of seasons ago there were 3 teams that lost money on the season, in 2008 that was down to 1, ( two teams with profits under 3 million dollars) 2009 is expected to be worse then 2007 and definitely 2008.

This CBA deal is about players making less money/.

If the salary cap could go down, it would actually go down in 2011...

2008 was the best year in NFL history, profit wise. (this is why the Cap was jumped in the off season) 2009 is expected to be one of the worse of the last few years...Lots of teams not selling all the tickets and a host of other problems....

Mean if it was possible the cap would have lowered in 2010 and then in 2011, but that isn't possible. so that number 45 percent of less then 6 billion = 62 percent of 6 billion doesn't make sense.

it's too bad only a handful of people realize that we're doing this to clear the books. We very may sign back lewis or jake. People need to quit freaking out and acting like we're "rebuilding".

I don't think we'll see Kemo or Delhome back. If Jake is having a press conference tomorrow then he's probably retiring. Kemo won't be ready in time. Lewis might come back but that's it.

Perfectly stated. The FO is using this time to clean up past mistakes and expensive contracts. I give them a lot of credit for this. Moore will get a good LTC either during the year this year or right after, our young, key players will be locked in, we will have all our picks and maybe then some, and in 2011 (if there's football) we will have the cap space to make any FA splashes deemed necessary.

Other teams (cough *Da Bears* cough) will ENVY our position. Just you guys watch.

Well done FO, well done.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/02/24/the-full-unabridged-story-on-the-18-percent-pay-cut-claim/

The league itself has not lost money in any year and has continued to grow every year since 1993. Some teams may be individually losing money but not the league as a whole. And the NFLPA isn't negociating with each team, they are negociating with the NFL as a whole.

In 2009 the original salary cap that had been pre-determined was set at around $120 million but because of % language in the CBA the NFL had to increase the cap becasue it made too much money.

I'm sure the owners don't want to play the players more than minium wage in all honesty but thats not what they are asking for. No company that pays it's employees more than 55% of the total revenue will be able to continue to sustain itself for the long term. In all reality, this is the owners fault for agreeing to the previous CBA that screwed them royally. They never thought the league would make as much money as it did and the salary cap was never suppose to rise to the amounts that it did.

It is very confusing and both sides are twisting the facts but in the end the players need to realize that taking less % will end up making them more money.

It only makes sense, remember when we were stockpiling young DTs through trades and waivers at the beginning of the season? Do you think that was because we were planning on tying up almost 19 million into average DTs.

I like both players, but neither are worth that much money.

The only way they stay is if they sign an extension (restructure deal).

Kemo was a solid NT. People who use the stat sheet to judge a player don't think so. But he was responsible for disrupting the offensive play more times than not, making the runner deviate from the play.

He will be missed!

He would have been out of place in Meeks' defense anyway.

Yea I agree, I dont wanna go into the season with a 350lb DT that just had Achilles surgery and is over 30 years old.

Especially when it is apparent that we are going younger all across the board.
