Boldin to ravens

Anyone who expects us to pick up veterans like Boltin or paying big prices are going to be upset constantly. We have shown we are more into dumping most of our veterans instead of keeping them and shopping at the bargain basement for others rejects. We will start picking up the guys these teams who are active in free agency are casting away or just wait until after the draft to pick through the dregs released then. Otherwise we will likely count on the draft for all our players.

I will try and remain optimistic but it seems we are going to sacrifice next year in an attempt to shed dollars and contracts. Too bad they won't cut the ticket prices by the same percentage they will be cutting the payroll.

For once I agree with you. JR is a cheap fug! Ive been saying for years that he is the most overrated owner.

And I'm curious why you even bother to root for the Panthers or even hang around here with how you're not a Panthers fan, but of the Gays like your name.

And personally, it wasn't risk losing both 3rd & 4th rounds. I rather just give the Cards 3rd round than both 3rd & 4th. We need as much Draft picks as we needed right now.

All you guys do is complain. Without JR there wouldnt be a Carolina Panthers for one thing. You didnt think he was cheap when he signed Jake long term did you? Nope. I am not surprised we didnt go after Boldin. Look at all the cuts we have made. It is not because he is cheap. He is setting this team up for long term success. Think about it long term. We dont want both of our starting WRs to be over 30 years old. Smitty and Boldin may only have 2 or 3 more years until they start declining. We are bbuilding a long term team. Young O-line talent, young QB, young D-line, young lbs, young Secondary. I am fine with passing up on Boldin. We build through the draft anyway. I dont understand why so many people complain when we dont sign a big name every season and make big trades. We build through the draft and then lock up our key players. Good move JR.

Boldin isn't a sure bet. He's still up there in age. The Panthers need YOUTH. They know it, they just haven't capitalized on finding the right guy yet. Let's wait until free agency and the draft finish until you guys get your panties in such a bunch.

No I didnt think he was cheap. I thought he was stupid. He gives Jake all that money because he's a good christian company line boy even though he stunk but he wont spend money on any good productive players like Bolden that would put this team over the top.Stupid comparison. Then again you're not a very smart man.

How is JR cheap? He dropped 17 million on peppers last year and offered him a contract that would make him the highest paid DE in the leauge.

He just dropped Jake to clear his contract which cost 13 million. This a year after giving him Jake massive extension. We gave gross and gamble big contracts.

He does all of this and you call him cheap just because he isn't drunk with cash and dumped a bunch of expensive mediocre 30 year old vets. Teams all around the leauge are going to be dumping players the clear the books for 2011 and beyond.

lol....you make that all sound like a bad thing.

much better strategy than over paying.

you sound like you have a case of hurt feelings right now and you're feeling a little bitter.

maybe you should go back to drinking the kool aid.

all moves we have made an haven't made so far this offseason have been good (except letting brayton get away). panthers are playing it smart and not letting decisions be based on emotional ties. now they can get on the business of building a winning team.

He owed that money to Jake wether he cut him or not. He just paid off a debt from a bad investment in one of his good ol boys.

They franchised pep in an effort to sign him long term deal. That back fired which is why they didnt do it again.

The panthers have done nothing in free agency over the last several years except for signing rejects. They made all these cuts to save money. Nothig more! This team could have had a player for only a 3rd round pick that would have put this team over the top. That is cheap

Gayman was right is always making up excuses/lies & whine about JR being cheap. If he was cheap, we wouldn't give Jake (before he was release), Gross, Gamble, Smitty, etc. a lot of money. Gayman just refuse to know he is wrong on JR being cheap. And we try to offer Pep a big contract 2 yrs. ago. Cheap my ass, you lying Gayman.

    • I think his stats will depend on the development of the rookies and sophomore receivers, which isn't totally under is control. The eye test is a different story. Has to consistently look the part before you decide to pay him Purdy money.
    • Interestingly I think we have kind of of gone through this as an organization. Richardson implemented an FO driven tank. Bad roster, no cash spent, coach uninterested. It may have been for different reasons but I think the results were the same. A team that wasn't going to win many if any games. We ended up with the #1 pick. Cam Newton came in and changed the franchise. It worked, but Cam himself pointed to the losing culture in the locker room needing to be changed. It probably took about 2-3 years for that to happen. Tank worked pretty damn well for us. Cam is one of one. Not another like him, everyone can't deliver on his draft status AND change a culture basically on his own.  So as an exercise here are the last 30 #1 picks. If you tanked and got to pick #1 how many of these guys do you think were worth it? Not just good players, but franchise changers. Guys who will take your culture and shift it so the tank was actually worth it. I would say maybe 9 or 10 guys would be worth a tank, pending the last 5 picks?    2025: Cam Ward (Miami (FL)) - Tennessee Titans 2024: Caleb Williams (USC) – Chicago Bears 2023: Bryce Young (Alabama) – Carolina Panthers 2022: Travon Walker (Georgia) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2021: Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2020: Joe Burrow (LSU) – Cincinnati Bengals 2019: Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) – Arizona Cardinals 2018: Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) – Cleveland Browns 2017: Myles Garrett (Texas A&M) – Cleveland Browns 2016: Jared Goff (California) – Los Angeles Rams 2015: Jameis Winston (Florida State) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2014: Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina) – Houston Texans 2013: Eric Fisher (Central Michigan) – Kansas City Chiefs 2012: Andrew Luck (Stanford) – Indianapolis Colts 2011: Cam Newton (Auburn) – Carolina Panthers 2010: Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) – St. Louis Rams 2009: Matthew Stafford (Georgia) – Detroit Lions 2008: Jake Long (Michigan) – Miami Dolphins 2007: JaMarcus Russell (LSU) – Oakland Raiders 2006: Mario Williams (North Carolina State) – Houston Texans 2005: Alex Smith (Utah) – San Francisco 49ers 2004: Eli Manning (Mississippi) – San Diego Chargers 2003: Carson Palmer (USC) – Cincinnati Bengals 2002: David Carr (Fresno State) – Houston Texans 2001: Michael Vick (Virginia Tech) – Atlanta Falcons 2000: Courtney Brown (Penn State) – Cleveland Browns 1999: Tim Couch (Kentucky) – Cleveland Browns 1998: Peyton Manning (Tennessee) – Indianapolis Colts 1997: Orlando Pace (Ohio State) – St. Louis Rams 1996: Keyshawn Johnson (USC) – New York Jets 1995: Ki-Jana Carter (Penn State) – Cincinnati Bengals
