Saints, Bears, Rams, Browns, Bills

Places I think Delhomme might get a deal, the latter being for starting positions. I still think Jake can land a starting gig in the NFL, likely as a veteran starter for a rookie QB.

We all know the Saints and Jake have a good relationship, especially because of his history with the team and the proximity to his home. If he believes his career is probably over, he can ride out the twilight of his career as the backup to Drew Brees.

They already have a history of snapping up former Panthers, (Brett Basanez, Ricky Manning, Mushin Muhammad, and *ehem* Julius Peppers). Jay Cutler didn't exactly light the world on fire last year. Delhomme could come in and be enough of a push to get Cutler playing his guts out.

The Rams will probably draft Bradford and he'd be a great backup for them, although they did sign AJ Feeley, who I could also see starting for them short term.

Mike Holmgren has already said he's likely dumping the two QBs on the team and looking elsewhere. Like the Rams, the Browns could use Delhomme as a veteran starter to be replaced by a rookie.

The Bills are probably Delhomme's best bet at a starting gig. They are QB hungry ever since the Jim Kelly era so even mediocre play would get him some reputation back. They have a young backup that won some games for them this year in Ryan Fitzpatrick, but he didn't have a good enough year to just be name the starter.

A vet with a career like Delhomme should be able to find work pretty quickly.

*edit

I did some reading through these teams message boards. The only team whose fans liked the idea of having Delhomme was, no surprise, the Saints. I mean if I was Jake, I'd totally sign with the Saints. But that just all depends on if he wants to start again. He did just make 12 million dollars so I don't think he's in it for the money anymore...soo...whatcha gunna do?

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
