Proof that Bill Cowher wanted John Fox to Fail....

I had a feeling there would be some speculation about this. And honestly, it's not really all that farfetched.

Consider that the Jets job is in arguably the best market in the country. The team has a good young nucleus and is probably only an upgrade or two (QB among them) from being serious contenders. Throw in also that the team was willing to make concessions toward giving Cowher the total control he desired.

Yet despite all this, he turned them down.

Is the Panther job the one he really craves? No idea really, but you could make an argument for it.

Going against it, the organization doesn't really like the "Coach/GM total control" model of leadership, and that's what Cowher wants. Truthfully, I'm with the team on this one. I hate that model too. It's record of success over the last several years is pretty lousy.

(just too much for one man to do, no matter how capable that man is)

I think it's really as simple as the fact that he got burned out at Pittsburgh, he knows how much time you have to put in once you sign on and he's still enjoying the time he already promised to his family. Part of it could also be that he doesn't have the people/coaches lined up that he wants to take in with him once he signs on somewhere.

I'm sure he'd consider the Carolina job but since it's not open this year and won't be open for the near future the speculation is getting kind of silly.

I personally wanted to see Cowher get the NCSU job when they hired O'Brien. Would be pretty neat seeing him coach at his alma mater - I live pretty close to Carter-Finley and try to make it on Saturdays with home games. I like O'Brien, and he's got a good couple years in front of him with Russell Wilson under center, but having the chin in there would make the atmosphere even crazier.

Cowher's not interested in college ball though, pretty sure he was offered the job by NCSU and declined ...

Guys, don't get carried away with the Fox/Cowher comparisons.

Cowher has proven to be the better coach in his 15 years of coaching, with many winning seasons, playoff berths, and 2 SB appearances and one win.

That doesn't mean we should just drop Fox and pick him up. Fox is good enough of a coach to keep us competitive and the hope is that he'll improve even more year-to-year.

    • I hope not. 3rd-5th round QB's are historically awful. Most of the time that team is just drafting another QB in the first the following year. Look at the Saints, if they continue to suck this year they are just taking a QB. And if they do they just threw away a 2nd round pick that they just drafted. We did the same poo with Clausen, Greer, Pike, that guy we drafted a few years ago who is so irrelevant I forgot his name...  Just take a 1st round QB if Bryce isn't the answer and be prepared to live with it
    • This reminds me on Madden where you create an alternate uniform and the pre-recorded voice overs talk about how hideous your uniform looks. 🤣
    • There are people on this forum that just want to see a lot of passing yards....number go up. That's all it is, really. They are thirsting for a 350-400 yard game. The idea that Jameis Winston is going to come in and play like a star and lead us to wins is ludacris. He's the 3rd fuging string for a 2-5 team and has played horrible for years now. Sure, passing numbers will go up but you'll also get a lot of dumb plays, pick 6's, and incompletions en route to a frustrating bad offensive performance, just in a different way. I think these people are yearning for another Delhomme situation, and the odds of that happening are very very slim. It's way more likely Howell or Jameis comes in and looks like Jack Plummer or Andy Dalton did in the preseason. There just isn't that much good quarterbacking in this league right now. And if we draft another QB in the first round, there is a good chance they bust. It's not a guaranteed carrot. The reality is, as mediocre as Bryce has been, the risk of bringing someone else in in-season and releasing Bryce becuase you aren't happy with his current performance is staggeringly high. Don't want to re-up his contract and search for a solution in the offseason? Sure, I'm on board. Bryce hasn't been good enough to warrant a second contract. But It is very. very unlikely that bringing someone else in midseason is going to give this team more wins.
