Mike Mayock discusses the risk of a 1st round QB....

Half of the QB's that you listed have really done nothing yet to say whether they are going to be franchise QB's.

Stafford: Rookie QB who has done nothing

Sanchez: Rookie QB whose team won because of running th ball and D. May be good, but does not warrant high praise yet.

Ryan: good rookie year. Mediocre sophomore year. Jury still out.

Flacco: Has shown improvement. However, his team really wins in spite of him, not because of him. The running game and defense are the reasons the Ravens made the playoffs.

Rodgers/Rivers: playing solid ball. However, both GB has made the playoffs once in the past two years. SD is a perennial one and done in the playoffs.

Not saying that these guys will not be good QB's, but to lump them into Rd 1 successes now is a bit premature.

I will give you Manning and McNabb. However, there are still more 1st and 2nd round QB busts than successes.

agree with you on these points, would have made them myself if you haven't... one thing though, I'd take Rodgers and Rivers in a heartbeat.. 2 of the best in the league. Perhaps playoff games will come along to back that up, but in a league where QB is hard to find, they are 2 of the best..

I am not saying that I would not take either....as I would.

Just that I would not put them on the list of elite QB's. They are def good, but only time will tell on them.

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
