Golden Tate not in Mel Kiper or Todd McShay's first round

i'd rather have taylor price. won't have to give up so much and price is probably going to be more consistent. tate would be good to have as a returner and thats where i think he would be most useful.

i'd also throw a vote in for eric decker in the later rounds. dude is flat our ready to play big time ball and will come cheap.

i might move up a little for demaryius thomas. i like that guys potential but i think we have some of that potential in dwayne jarrett and he's more ready for the offense than thomas. i do like what thomas would bring as a blocker, though.

i remember when we all wanted Deangelo Williams(I did) but nobody thought he would drop all the way to the bottom of round one..if it's meant to be it is meant to be...if he plays like Steve Smith then Steve Smith won't be seeing double or triple coverage...

McShay and Kiper know Diddley. Golden had the best combine. His competition either did not participate in the 40 or many other tests (Dez or Bay Bay). Ran slower than they were expected to (Lefell or Gilyard). OR had bad showing in drills like Benn who looked like Braylon Edwards 2.0.

The fact that people have drawn comparisons with Smitty tells you all you need to know.

He is faster than everyone in the draft other than Ford but a better receiver than FORD. He has none of the red flags of Dez Bryant. He was developed by Charlie Weiss. You don't think that one of the off shoots of the Patriot Coaching Tree will take a chance on him you are crazy. AS A MATTER OF FACT i will say that the Broncos at 11 will take him. Mark it down. Sticky it or whatever the guy is actually the best receiver in the draft.

I am not a ND fan yet alone homer. The guy made Clausen look good. Let's break down the top WR's and compare.

Bay Bay Thomas - Paul Johnson's triple option is about as far from a pro style offense as you can get. Doesn't possess a clear second gear. Like many taller receivers sometimes has trouble with low passes. WHEN DOES HE PLAN ON RUNNING?

Brandon Lefell - LSU receiver who is very capable physically and is a prototype sized player. More of a possession receiver than a speed or deep threat.

Dez Bryant - Questions about his maturity, consistency and work ethic persist. Playing prima donna before even drafted = RISK. OSU plays a gimmick college offense.

Damian Williams - Much like Lefell he does not have many cons other than lack of pure speed. I like Williams and it hard to find much bad to say about him other than coming out of USC ( university of spoiled children.)

Golden Tate - Speed. He has it. I seem to remember someone in the Panther organization saying they wanted speed across from Smith. Tough runner for his size. Coached well in route running in a PRO-STYLE offense. His height is the ONLY negative. Sound familiar. Sounds like Smith to me.

I'd rather have Gilyard over Bryant, Thomas, LaFell, and Benn... But if it were between he and Tate, it'd be a tough choice... I think they are both mature, have good swagger and confidence on the field, are great route runners, are able to catch the ball in traffic, and have the ability to get open and be dangerous in the open field...

I lean towards Gilyard because I think he's more polished and he has a slight height and hand advantage, but Tate would be our next Steve Smith... He is so comparable to him it isn't even funny...

That said, Gilyard has Smith-esque moves at times too... So we can't go wrong with either...

I've predicted the trade-up with KC for a while now, and I think that is the route we'll be exploring if certain players are there... Tate is one of those players, while Gilyard is almost guaranteed to be there at our pick anyways, and could slide into the 3rd...

You predict too much. Has any of your predictions ever came true? if so, give me an example.

    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
    • He wasn't a JAG, he's been a starter every year of his career. Didn't turn into the superstar it seemed like he might his rookie year, but I think part of that has been being misused. Guy was/is a baller.
