Panthers interested in Jason Campbell

If this happens, I am a goddamn genius...

I ain't even gonna go back that far and dig up those predictions...

You know how it might just play out... We send Marshall to Philly for a 2nd or 3rd and a 4th or 5th, and in return send that 4th or 5th to Washingon...

It's almost going to be a 3 way trade involving McNabb, Campbell, and Marshall...

IF it works out like that...

I am all for bringin in Campbell.............. He is not that bad as people think. He is a good option to have on the roster and compete. Lets not forget the two lost season the past three because all the Panthers had was Jake. Having to many QB's on the roster that can start is never a bad thing. And if Moore crumbles or cant beat out Campbell than he doesnt deserve to be the starter. Many people complained Jake never had a QB on the roster pushing him so lets not make the same mistake with Moore.

I am ALL for bringing in Campbell.

You guys realize he has a 1st and 3rd round tender, right? I don't understand why you'd want to give up ANYTHING for him when he'd just be a backup. If he was a free agent, then sure bring him in. but giving up picks, or players for him is just dumb when we already have our quarterback.

and SLJ, I don't know if you just don't like Richard Marshall or are just making predictions about what you think may happen, but why would you want to give him up for a backup QB? Richard Marshall was apart of the #4 ranked pass defense, and I don't want to see that secondary disrupted as it's one of the most experienced set of players we have. He's an excellent #2 corner, and isn't worth trading.

edit- and I'm not saying Campbell is bad, I think he's had a rough tenure playing for the Skins behind a bad offensive line and a constantly changing offense.. but I just don't understand why people can't trust Moore. He's done just about everything he could possibly do to prove he's ready for the starting job. Gotta give the guy a chance.

Nothing says "faith in Matt Moore" and wanting to make sure he's not looking over his shoulder than bringing in a young guy that's been a starter for several years elsewhere.

This would be a very stupid move, so I fully expect it to happen.

It would be a very SMART move.

Just because you have faith in a QB does not mean that you do not have a solid and able back-up. Doing THAT would be a stupid move.

He will get moved for SIGNIFICANTLY less than his tender. I say he moves for no more than a 4th round pick.

It isn't that I don't like Marshall or anything like that...

I see it as this...

Richard Marshall is a great nickel corner... But he leaves a little to be desired as a starter... Ron Meeks' system had a lot more to do with our pass defense ranking than Richard Marshall...

Plus, I think we want to draft a CB in the 3rd or 4th round, or give Munnerlyn or Martin a shot at moving into the #2 spot... We invested a lot in Martin just for him to come in and be a backup FS... Just saying...

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
    • Bryce’s deep passes are intermediate passes for other strong armed QBs. I will say that Bryce’s accuracy on his deep passes have improved. Before they would just sail out of bounds. Now the WR actually has a fighting chance on the ball.
