Panthers interested in Jason Campbell

Nothing says "faith in Matt Moore" and wanting to make sure he's not looking over his shoulder than bringing in a young guy that's been a starter for several years elsewhere.

This would be a very stupid move, so I fully expect it to happen.

I don't know. I mean, assuming they still want Moore to start, is there a better option for a backup quarterback out there?

lol why do people hate Jason Campbell so much?

I can understand the "not giving Moore a fair shot" sentiment, but other than that, what the hell?

He hasn't exactly had a great supporting cast around him during his career, and his owner is as loony as Daffy Duck...

I don't think anyone hates him, I think people hate the idea of giving up picks for him. Every team listed there(aside from the unknown) has a higher pick than the Panthers. Also: the Browns could be interested as well and they have three 3rd round picks. Have to remember QB value is high for an experienced starter. I can see him going for a 3rd to some of the dumber GM's.

Hell, Whitehurst went to Seattle for a damn 3rd round pick, and switched 2nds(allowing the Chargers to move up like 20 spots.)

It would be a very SMART move.

Just because you have faith in a QB does not mean that you do not have a solid and able back-up. Doing THAT would be a stupid move.

Agree 100%

Hunter Cantwell is our #2 QB right now. That's not a typo. If Moore doesn't play well or gets hurt, we're in a bad baaaad way as it stands. I'd also really like for our next QB to actually have some competition.

Washington will trade him for (much) less than his tender amount.

I've never seen a QB with at times such lackluster play be so fervently defended by those in the media. Well since maybe delhomme, but that's only really the local media

It's not his fault! Things are hurting his development that are out of his control! *smooch smooch*

Switching offensive coordinators doesn't keep you from completing 4-yard out routes.

He must be the nicest guy in the world.

You don't trade for Campbell to make him a backup. This will be a disaster with half of Panthers fans wanting Moore to start and the other wanting Campbell to start. The first bad game that Moore has, the calls for Campbell to start will become overwhelming even faster than Moore over Delhomme last year. The talent level and age between Moore and Campbell is very similar and that's not what you want when a guy is finally getting a chance to start.

I do want another quarterback, but I'd like some veteran quarterback that isn't going to threaten Moore.

He threw for more yards and had a higher completion percentage than McNabb last year. Granted, I'm sure he had more attempts as well (probably due to the Redskins eternally playing from behind).

Take the statements that are being made about him...

- "The team around him is bad; it's not his fault"

- "He was a high pick, so he's got to be good"

- "He's been through different systems"

- "He just hasn't been handled properly"

- "A change of scenery will make him better"

- "Competition at quarterback is a good thing"

...then insert the name "David Carr" in place of Campbell's name, go back three years, find the Huddle and see if anything sounds familiar.

Campbell isn't the same QB as Carr, but he's far from issue free.

And yeah, I do find it disturbing that the arguments for bringing him here are essentially the same ones used before.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
