Panthers interested in Jason Campbell

Bcause, as has been stated... Campbell is younger, cheaper, and fits our needs better...

I don't know that I buy that last part.

Said elsewhere; if Moore weren't established as a starter, I'd agree. Circumstances now make me think otherwise.

Donovan McNabb is far and away a better quarterback than Campbell. There's a reason that, uh, the Redskins traded for him while they had Campbell already.

It's so depressing to see this fanbase to naturally start off by not wanting the great quarterback because "it's not our style".

Now I'm of the opinion that it should be Moore or bust this season, so I wouldn't have been all in favor of getting McNabb. But if given the option of seeing McNabb as a Panther next year or Campbell, I'd choose McNabb every time. It's telling that so many of you were never even willing to entertain the possibility of a potential Hall of Fame quarterback still playing damn well coming here and are much more excited at the prospects of Jason Campbell. That's not a slam on you guys, it's just natural because low expectations have been beaten into us when it comes to player personnel because of what Fox and Hurney have done in the past and especially this offseason.

I would love to have McNabb. Hell, I'd love to have kept Peppers. I wish we'd have made a move for Boldin or Marshall. I'd love to have a lot of players that it's just not reasonable for us to pick up right now.

Bringing in Campbell as a No. 2 is a smarter move for this team than giving away multiple draft picks for McNabb.

Yeah, let's piss away our only real shot at getting a good young WR talent to play opposite Smitty this season or a starting outside linebacker, and more, to get a QB that is old, washed up, and doesn't fit our system of game management/making smart decisions (Jake Delhomme excluded)...

this.. we have muuuch bigger needs than QB right now. to spend picks elsewhere shouldn't be entertained..

although I don't feel McNabb is washed up..

and what makes you think that a rookie WR will actually make an impact for this team?

I'd much rather trade for a young but experienced WR then pick of a rookie WR in the 2nd round and furthermore, use our 2nd round pick on a defensive player

This proves that you know nothing about the NFL other than the Panthers. McNabb just had one of the best seasons of his career last year. Try to fail less when you reply to a poster of my caliber next time.

A system of game management/making smart decisions? McNabb had the second best TD-to-INT ratio in the league last year. That sounds a wee bit better than the guy that's been our "smart decision" quarterback since '03.

Also, keep in mind that I also didn't want to go after McNabb. My point is that not being interested in McNabb at all after a decade of Delcrap while simultaneously being interested in Jason Campbell is pretty sad.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
