The fact that the Redskins offered defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the Eagles as part of the Donovan McNabb package wasn't a one-time thing.

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com recently reported that he expects the Redskins to continue to try to trade the man with the four-year, $48 million contract. John Clayton of ESPN.com believes that Haynesworth could return to the Titans, the team with which he spent his first seven NFL seasons. Clayton also believes that the Redskins could send Haynesworth to the Rams for defensive tackle Adam Carriker.

Before the McNabb trade went down, we heard Haynesworth's name mentioned as one of the possible pieces of the package that could be put together for a run at Sam Bradford.

Bottom line? It's looking like the Redskins are willing to declare defeat regarding the Haynesworth deal, and then move forward.

because it's a monumentally bad idea to pay any player that kind of money...esp. that kind of guaranteed money and to a guy with a questionable character and work ethic.

anyone who had been following his career (and yes, i have) would know that is last couple years in nashville were only to get a giant contract and the stupidest team won (well, not the stupidest...the bucs wanted to give him more but he didn't want to go there).

this is exactly the idea why i don't like going after these big high profile FAs. name recognition is no guarantee of a good player. people whine because we don't go after the big name guys but what these people fail to realize is that these players will perform at a much higher level when they are looking for a big contract and once they have gotten that big contract no longer have any incentive to work for it.

i much more like what the panthers do...build through the draft and go after mid-to low profile guys who haven't made a name for themselves but are trying,instead to make a name for themselves. it isn't the guys who have proved their worth that i want because you most likely won't be getting what you paid for. it's thiose guys who are trying to prove their worth...that are HUNGRY and out for respect and/or a big contract some day.

give me those guys that "no one has ever heard of" over those big name guys any day. i'll pick through 10-20 of those and find one or two superstars in the making and still have plenty of cap room.

I really don't see how they will move him.... That is a bad contract to take on, plus his decline in production in addition to his reported work ethics. If feel Washington should have to trade him with a draft pick for a team to take such a horrible contract.

Only other thing is maybe another team can restructure his deal to take most of the hit this season while there is no salary cap.

Haynesworth is due a $29 million "poison pill" in 2013, effectively making it a four-year, $48.2 million deal. Another $15 million is available through incentives.

2010: $3.6 million (+ $21 million guaranteed option bonus due 4/1),

2011: $5.4 million,

2012: $6.7 million (+ $500,000 workout bonus),

2013: $8.5 million (+ $20 million "discretionary signing bonus" + $500,000 roster bonus due 8/31 = Poison Pill Year),

2014: $10.3 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus due 8/31),

2015: $11.5 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus due 8/31),

2016: Free Agent

      To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .

      The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown.
