QB instead of WR in the 2nd?

Would anyone take Colt McCoy ahead of a WR in the 2nd round? Personally...I think that if Golden Tate and Dez Bryant are both gone then I'd take McCoy. Was Matt Moore good at the end of the season? Yeah. But you can't ever have enough insurance at QB and I think McCoy is going to be a star wherever he goes.

There are a ton of good WRs in this draft and I think that we could still get a guy like Price (from Ohio) in the 3rd round. So we could either do that or ride it out with Matt Moore and if we suck then we don't owe him anything for 2011 and we have a top draft pick to draft a QB. Either way...I like where we are right now.

You better pray that no one sees this otherwise your going to get slammed... just a little advice

I don't want a QB at all in this draft.

this, unless it is Armanti Edwards (who can play WR and kick/punt-returner as well) in the 5th or 6th. if Moore flops, next years draft is loaded at QB. Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Andrew Luck, Terrell Pryor, Pat Devlin, Christian Ponder, Case Keenum, Greg McElroy, Colin Kaepernick, Tyrod Taylor...

I actually mentioned this before... That we very well could take McCoy...

That said, it isn't necessarily the pick I would want or be happy with, but if Tate is off the board, I really think we'll trade back in the second with a team like Seattle (pick 60)...

The value just isn't there at 48 for the positions we need... At 60, we'd be setting ourselves up for taking Gilyard or someone else that isn't a reach there...

Also, don't be surprised if C.McCoy goes in the first round, or to St. Louis at the top of the 2nd if they pass on Bradford or Clausen... You could actually see 4 QBs go in the first (The Golden Calf of Bristol, McCoy, Bradford, and Clausen)...

If all our options are gone and we stay at 48, WR is kind of a reach... LBs there won't really fit our needs, and DEs and DTs would be reaches too, more than likely... If we are forced to stay there, my bet would be we take a DB, as that would be the most value there... or BPA if you would prefer... Not sexy by any means at all, and will receive a lot of WTF here... but it would be the smartest move...

Hopefully, it won't come to that and someone like Tate, Dunlap, Weatherspoon (not likely now) or even C.McCoy slides...

It is just further evidence that I think we'll move up into the late 1st or early second to get "our guy" somehow...

Taking a player who wouldn't likely contribute for at least a year or two at a spot where we already have an established starter versus taking a player who could contribute right away at a spot where we have immediate need?

Doesn't work for me :nonod:

I agree and this is one of the reasons that I wish that the FO would keep an open mind about the QB position. They were completely closed off to anyone possibly starting over Jake Delhomme and I don't want that to happen with Matt Moore. He shouldn't be guaranteed a job just because he is the starter. Lets face it...if our backup QB is Cantwell then Moore is guaranteed a job. If our backup is Colt McCoy then Moore knows that we have someone waiting in the wings if he doesn't work out.

The Panthers just have this messed up theory that taking a QB in the first round is a doomed philosophy. So I'm afraid that Moore could suck next year and the Panthers would still be afraid to pull the trigger on a talented first round kid for 2011. Better to be safe than sorry at that position...

I think we'll:

Get Jason Campbell (eliminating the need to draft a QB at any point)

See how the draft starts playing out and see who is sliding... More than likely, teams will reach at QBs like The Golden Calf of Bristol and McCoy in the late first/early second...

This lets someone like Golden Tate or Daryl Washington slide a little, and if they slide enough, we'll do what we have to do to move up and snag him...

48 is a horrible spot to be in for OLB or WR, which are our biggest needs if we get Campbell... We'll have to move up or slide down to get the best value from our first pick...

If worse comes to worse and we have to stay at 48, it'll be a DB (I really doubt this happens) or a pass rushing DE/OLB hybrid like Jason Worilds... He is actually pretty hot on my radar right now for the Panthers...

Receiver is our biggest need right now, regardless of what else we get, and I don't see us getting a vet QB before the draft.

As to the notion of a rookie being competition to start, you're talking about a coaching staff that was reluctant to start a guy who had three years in the system. Anyone seriously think they'd look to a rookie?

The same can be said for WR... Jarrett...

OLB, in my opinion, is still the biggest hole in our team... QB is right behind it...

WR is there too, and based on Smitty's chatter, you can rest assured we'll grab one if he is there, or make a play to move up and get our guy...

But if the worst case scenario rears its head, we'll have to stay at 48 and go BPA without reaching too hard for need... At this point, that could be a DB, OL, or something else totally off the wall... I wouldn't rule out someone like Vlad Ducasse if he's there either... lol.. You never know with the Panthers...

My prediction still stands as OLB or WR with our first pick (wherever it is), then whichever one of those we didn't get with our second pick, and then start looking at QBs with our third or fourth pick (again, wherever those picks might end up falling)... Of course, this does not hold true if we get Campbell...

Jarrett's got built-in issues (work ethic being the biggest).

We've got Davis, Anderson and Conner working at OLB. You consider that our biggest weakness?

    • Yeah, in those highlights in that situation sure he was getting a decent ball 35+ yards in the air with his feet set decently. Conversely if you watch a game like Texas 2022 when he was getting consistent pressure all the bad footwork and inaccurate throws come out. That game was the major red flag for me and so far that's what we've seen week in and week out
    • I will just say I hope he's saving his money...
