that predicts that we won't select a WR with our 1st pick (2nd round) ?

Reasons:

1) Everybody is pretty much set on us selecting a WR, which history has proved that Fox and Hurney sometimes go the other direction... (I.E. Selecting Beason when everybody thought that a safety was our biggest need)

2) The WR class is pretty deep this year, we could easily find a quality receiver in the 3rd or 4th round.

3) Despite how people feel about Jarrett and Moore, it isn't like we don't have depth at receiver, will any make opening day roster? I don't know but while I do expect us to draft a receiver, do we actually know if Fox and Hurney have the same sentiments as we do?

I just don't know, drafts can be pretty tricky and I really hope you guys are prepared if we don't select a WR with their 2nd round pick.

The class is deep but right there where we will pick I think all the 2nd round value is gone. I really don't think Gilyard is worth the 48th but I wouldn't hate the pick. I tend to think Atkins might be the surprise pick if Price and Alualu are gone.

only way I would want a LB is if Weatherspoon falls(he won't), maybe Daryl Washington, and if Ricky Sapp is able to convert to a LB, which i doubt, no for LB. CB only if McCourty or Kareem Jackson falls. other than WR, DT, DE, CB, and LB, I would be very Fu***** mad if we drafted something different.

I might be completely wrong, but I'm feeling DE to be honest. But it really will depend on what's there.

The only thing I would be disappointed by would be S, OL, or RB.

If we draft Dunlap things will be thrown.

I think we will pick WR simply because of BPA.

48 is an akward place, I hate making mock drafts with 48. 2nd is the hardest pick because the value sucks.

If all the talent goes off the board then I would want to trade down to the bottom 2nd.

You must be joking, 2nd picks are were you get value. Guys like Brian Price or D. Thomas are 1st round talents that could fall into the 2nd where they will be had cheaper. There are always guys with great talent that fall into the 2nd this year is even more deep there.

Also I don't think WR will be BPA at 48. Most likely D. Williams (who I don't want anyway lets not tempt fate), G. Tate, A. Benn, and D. Thomas will all be gone. I don't want anything to do with Lafell and Gilyard to me isn't worth that pick (I think he has 3rd round value) but I would be OK with him there if there set on a WR.

Most likely we will draft a DE or DT unless we trade up or one of those guys falls.

Agree completely! I don't think any WR left would BPA at #48 and probably would not be a starter here next year. I hadn't thought about CB, but it could be a possibility at #48 if the right things fall into place.

Two things that have me leaning towards waiting until the 3rd round to draft a WR. Rick Gosselin (probably the most accurate mockster out there) was asked what position has the best bet of getting steals based on talent. He said WR in the 3rd and 4th rounds will be loaded with great players to choose from.

Also GBN, one the more respected draft sites, just revised their big board and have Mardy Gilyard ranked in the low 90's now. Would love to use our 3rd on him just not our 2nd.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
