I'm not that down on Martin - I saw a LOT of defensive breakdowns staring in the second period, I think Kooch would have had a similar result.

I called BS on that notion. The other night when we barely beat the Flyers everyone was all over PK, but Martin doesn’t get that same treatment.

Kochetkov would have let in the same 5. None of those were cheap goals, except the goalie interference that wasn't.

I don't think Martin played poorly, overall. However, I gotta disagree on this. I think just factoring in styles of play, you would've seen a difference on at least a few of those.

Spencer seems to be more of a patient, stay at home type goalie vs Pyotr's, well...

... we'll call reckless abandon. Syle matters.

Snipers like Makar and Natedogg are gonna pick apart a patient goalie, eventually. You gotta challenge those guys, and throw them off their game.

And, all of that ignores the "it" factor.

... I know how cringe that sounds. I didn't enjoy typing that, but I don't know how else to describe it. It seems blatantly obvious to me that the team plays differently with Kucci in net.

Does that mean we would've shut out the Avs if Pyotr was in net? Not, necessarily, we all know Kucci still has those wtf nights. Hell, he might've had a complete meltdown and given up 11.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
