Now that I think about it...

I think the unusually large amount of DB's was because of Richard Marshalls uncertainty. They might just want to throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and pray something sticks.

I agree. I think the Panthers are preparing for life without Marshall. They knew they probably wouldn't get a Captain again (seventh rounder who outplays his potential) by just taking one db in the final rounds. So you take three and triple your odds.

Also why did everyone think we were going after DT? Hello We spent a fifth and sixth rounder on them (Tank and Leonard), plus we signed a former starter in Ed Johnson.

As far as DE, our first rounder went to him.... his name is Everette Brown. Plus we got one possibly two other DE's in Hardy and Norwood.

We did what we usually do. Take the best talent available. Whether you like it or not thats what got us Beason and J-stew so I wouldn't be so quick to whine until we have actually seen what these players can do.

Wright is a ST only player at the Gunner spot, so don't consider him as a WR.

Second they needed WR's bad, Jarrett has been a bust regardless of reason. After Smith there was only really Moore and who?????????????

WR DC next season

Smith, Moore, Edwards

LaFell, Jarrett?, Gettis

Moore needed Competition in Camp at the QB spot. They picked both Clausen and Pike because of the separation on the Panthers draft board. Both are solid Picks and theres a good chance that Clausen Beats out Moore in Camp for the Starter job.

QB was a need even if no one wants to admit it. Grabbed Clausen (Who I consider the best QB prospect in the draft) and Pike 2 of the top 5-6 QB's in the draft

De - Brayton, Brown, Johnson, Taylor, Hardy plus Norwood has the size to play DE as well.

Dt - Tyler, Leonard, Johnson, Landri, Irvin, Hayden

That's 12 Dlinemen already on the time, with Tyler, Leonard and Johnson at DT (we haven't seen much from and the panthers used two picks from this draft to trade for two of them.) At DE we haven't seen much from Brown and Johnson starting wise, Have an unknown in Taylor and Hardy as well. Norwood can play both DE and OLB and gives the team flexibility at both spots.

There were teams ahead of the Panthers there were thought to have been interested in picking him. He would've never fell to the Panthers 4th rounder and if he had they wouldn't have gotten Norwood (who's a steal in the 4th btw.)

The DB's the panthers have picked up in FA have been strictly STers. The guys they picked up in the draft are expected to compete in Marshall Holds out or demands a trade or ext...... Plus he won't be back after this season anyways.... Captain is too small to start outside....

These DB's will compete with wilson for the Dime and quarter spots more then Likely the With Martin getting the starting job if Marshall doesn't sign his tender.

Marshal/ Martin - Wilson

Gamble - Captain - Draft picks.

Pugh is expected to take Martin's spot as the back up Free Safety spot on the team as well

The Dline was well addressed in the draft... They used picks on Brown (last year's trade) Hardy, Norwood (can play both DE and OLB) Leonard and Tyler. That's 5 picks used on Dline talent. Seems addressed to me.
