Panthers answer question about team's direction

they get a pat on the back.. even if this QB fell in their laps..

however, this philosophy is useless if you can't replace guys and let vets go before they lose value.. you gain draft picks, in turn, gain more opportunities to gain impact players..

it has taken us a long time to get to to a point where we draft successfully at this consistent level.. we've seen quite a few players leave and we've gained draft spots for them. but we still have to get better at building more value with our draft picks and replacing the ones who are expendable..

or in our case, an every other year contender...

In fairness, they've only adopted this philosophy over the last few years. It's still something of a work in progress.

Gantt believes Hurney now has "the kind of roster he's always wanted" (paraphrasing). We'll see if that pans out.

i think this was their plan from the get go, draft young realtively inexpensive talent, develop it and sign middle market free agents to supplement the roster. pittsburgh among others has done this for years and it's one of the reasons they are so successful. they have a philsophy that starts from the top and look for people that fit it(coach,gm and players)
