Tony Softli out of a job

The part about the '07 draft really brings back bad memories of some his work he did here.

when he ran our scouting dept we took alot of risky picks that didn't pan out, under gregory we have drafted more guys who can atleast play in the nfl. you can never spend enough money in the scouting dept IMO

just looked at some past drafts and just thought some of these were interesting..

in 05' RB Eric Shelton was taken 11 picks before Frank Gore, 56 picks before Brandon Jacobs and 76 picks before Darren Sproles..

Elvis Dumervil was picked 5 picks after Nate Salley in the 4th round of 06'.. and Jamar Williams was picked 1 pick ahead of Salley.. and Brandon Marshall the pick before Jamar Williams..

in 07' WR Dwayne Jarrett was picked in between WRs Sidney Rice and Steve Smith

and Tank Tyler was taken with the pick right before we nabbed Charles Johnson..

Ryne Robinson was taken 42 picks before Steve Breaston..

Softli made enough of an impression on the Panthers that he rose quickly through the organization. He was finally promoted to Director of College Scouting in 2000. Softli helped the Panthers become one of the premier franchises in the league.

Along the way, he helped the team secure the likes of Julius Peppers, Steve Smith, Kris Jenkins and Dan Morgan. His drafts were successful and, according to NFL.com’s Gil Brandt, he had helped the Panthers procure the highest percentage of drafted starters in the league at 37 percent.

While Softli was a great success in Carolina, it had become clear to him that he had essentially hit his ceiling for some time with the organization. Of course, that didn’t stop him from becoming an innovator in professional scouting.

i did say their are a few exceptions, but 22 of the 24 players the panthers drafted since 07 are still on the team and 23 of the 24 are still in the nfl that's a very good percentage(this includes every pick in 08 and 09)

I have no way to prove it now, but Breaston was the guy I was hoping we'd draft in that round.
