3 options for getting a new 360

Ok I have 3 options for replacing my 360...

A. Send in my old one to get fixed for $100 bucks, no hdmi but a 1 year warranty.

B. Buy a used one for $130, hdmi but I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy a cable so that's about 30 more dollars to the price, I think I have a 30 day warranty.

C. By a new one for 200, hdmi, I probably have to buy the cable too so that's 30 bucks again. 1 year warrnty and a lesser chance of it exploding.

I don't really play video games a ton but I do like having the option of playing when I want. It's a nice way to unwind

if you spend 30 dollars on an HDMI cable you are a fool. You can get cables online for a couple dollars. There is a place in Concord called Firefold that has them for under 10 dollars well.

It's not the cable that I would spend that money on it's the audio splitter that connects to the old part of the 360.

All depends on your budget and how important that HDMI is to you. For me I'd just go with the cheapest fix. Usually when I play games I don't take the time to pay attention to the graphics. If the game is fun, I won't care if it's not in 1080p.

On a side note, it bugs me when developers make a game that is so HD-friendly it creates problems with regular TVs. Try playing Mass Effect in standard def. and the subtitles/text can be damn near impossible to read.

Don't you have a nice gaming rig or something?

EDIT: There's a D option too. Buy a PS3 and get a blue-ray, and skip out on the RROD.

It's pretty nice, core 2 8400, 8800 GTS 512, 4 gigs 1066 dual channel. I kind of built it just for fun and because I needed a new comp. My monitor is huge so it can't really keep up with modern games. I would probably need sli to get satisfying frame rates.

Pc gaming is expensive. I constantly find myself wanting to tweak things and upgrade stuff which can turn into a money pit. It's like owning an old car you want to restore. I'm a graphics *****.

I like the PS3 for a lot of reasons like free online play, better graphics(finally) blu-ray, upconverting DVDs and ps2 games to 1080p is a huge plus. Also GT5 looks like the best thing ever.

At the same time I'm pretty loyal to the xbox for a few reasons as well.

Heh, as long as you're not running Vista, you should be getting some pretty solid framerate even on the higher resolutions. I haven't upgraded from XP Pro to 7 yet, gonna wait until I do all my major upgrades, psu, mobo/proc, ram, etc. But I have no trouble running new games on at least 1280x1024 or higher. Though it is odd that Bioshock runs worse than Borderlands.

QFT. I'm running Vista premium and not only does it suck more than gig from me at any given moment, but I get bad framerates and game crashes all the time. Hell, I even get disconnected from my wireless at random once in awhile when Vista decides it doesn't like my IP.

Vista x64!!! It's great for video encoding and multitasking but that's about it. It sucks for games.

I'm thinking about making an XP machine on the cheap for some older games. It'd be kind of fun if I could get a low enough budget. I might make a topic about that. Doom 3, FarCry, Halo, don't well on vista.

borderlands is cel shaded isn't it? That's got to be easier on the system than bio shock with all of it's crazy ass reflections.

Most games still run on XP Pro. I think Halo 2 is the only "vista only" game on the market. I've encountered no issues with it.

Unfortunately you're capped at 3gb of ram with XP, and with dual channel ram, its better to just go ahead and stay at 2gb.

Borderlands is Cel Shaded, but there's still all that bloom and filters that come with the U3 Engine.

So far Windows 7 seems to be a pretty decent OS, but I'm not gonna upgrade myself for at least another year.

You could probably go buy a pooty single core premade pc (the horrors!) for about 200-300 bucks and slap in a 240 gt and play all those older games into the ground.

I'm hooked on this Real Cars v1.42 for San Andreas that replaces all the vehicles in the game with high quality vehicles.

Like a 1970 Cuda. :)

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
