Now we have no money for free agency.

We would have only had $4MM to spend in free agency if he did opt out, so its not like we're losing much. We can still use veteran minimum contracts and the MLE to sign players, which would have been what we would have done had Chandler opted out. In a way Chandler sticking around is a good thing, we've got a starter at center and a $12MM expiring contract to use as trade bait.

The Bobs should just let the contract run out and not take on any more players in trades, though they may have to trade TT before the deadline to get under the luxury tax threshold. Plus I am not so sure that everyone in the NBA is going to be so hungry to dump players next season for expirings after this FA period.

They won't trade Thomas to get under the luxury tax, there's Nazr Mohammad and Tyson Chandler's expiring deals that would go before Thomas would. They traded a first round pick for him, he'll be here for a while. And there's always going to be a market for expiring contracts, especially since there's a few potential studs in next year's free agent market too.

I think Tyson Chandler would fit in Detroit. The Pistons don't really have a great Center situation with Ben Wallace and Kwame Brown both FA's. They drafted Greg Monroe and he can play some Center but having him and TC would give them more flexibility.

A three team trade involving Tayshaun Prince, Tyson Chandler, Jason Maxiell and Chris Wilcox could be interesting. The Clippers add Tayshaun Prince. The Pistons acquire Tyson Chandler and the Bobcats get Chris Wilcox and Jason Maxiell.

Why they would do it.

Piston- Need big man and get rid of Prince's contract

Clippers- Add a veteran winner in Prince to pair with the incoming Paul Pierce.

Bobcats- Get something for TC and his expiring contract. Add depth behind TT.

Yep, he's more valuable to us as an expiring contract that we can flip for a young guy that can help us, and hopefully reduce payroll. And if he is really over his injuries and actually contributes like he is capable of, then he can be a key figure in a playoff run...hopefully deeper than the first round.

We have to find a way to improve, and let's be honest, Charlotte is not the mecca for FA's. The only FA's we will get will be lower tier one's that have been passed over by the better teams, and we could likely get a better player by trading away TC and his expiring contract.

And there will still be some quality FA's available next year such as Carmello Anthony (assuming he doesn't re-sign). Also, there are always some teams that feel they are right on the verge, and are willing to trade away a young guy for a vet that can help them in the playoffs, as well as teams that will want to get under the salary cap before the new CBA next year.

      And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth

      I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
