Michael Jordan chilling in Charlotte

Recommended Posts

Source: Charlotte Observer

Michael Jordan sightings in Charlotte used to be rare enough that they had a Halley's Comet quality.

Look over there. Did you see that bald head? Was that him?

Maybe it was. Hard to tell, because inevitably a door was closing somewhere, and you weren't invited inside.

Not anymore. In the three months or so since Jordan bought the Charlotte Bobcats from Bob Johnson and became the team's majority owner, Jordan's visibility both in the community and in the Bobcats' offices has increased dramatically.

It's pretty cool that he is starting to be the great owner, the one no one thought he could be.

Yeah, i'm glad Mike is showing some love for his team. It's not enough to just playoff of the name "Jordan" and hope people will care enough to come to the games and sign as free agents. He's got to show he's the kind of owner that cares about his organization, the players, the fans, and winning!

Yeah, I am a big MJ fan but I had my doubts we he first became owner. However, it is now safe to say those doubts are gone.

Last year he routinely showed up for home games and then immediately got on his private jet and flew back to Chicago.

I will withhold judgment for now.

Michael Jordan's ego is too big to not having a winning franchise. He may sink a lot of money into the Bobcats, he may have to remake the team a few times, but Michael Jordan will bring a consistently good team to Charlotte.

at least hes making a commitment unlike Buckcat Johnson

Jordan is making a commitment to the city, I agree. As far as being committed to winning, I think he's on the same page as Bob. Both being better than Shinn ever was. Minus LJ's $75 million dollar contract, which seems like a bargain these days, the last years of the Hornets in Charlotte, saw the club trade away talent after talent! Luckily, through that entire mess, GM Bob Bass turned out some pretty good rosters.

I don't much care about him being a part of the community. I think it's pretty creepy that people care to know where MJ eats or watches a game. I guess being the big fish, in a small pond, appeals to some? Yet, MJ has shown a desire to win --- which I appreciate. Still, even when Bob was here, he wasn't afraid to resign Okafor or trade for Jason Richardson, and take on his hefty contract.

I know Shinn brought professional basketball to Charlotte and will always be owed a debt of gratitude for that. BUT Bob showed a commitment to winning that Shinn never did, and if that's not enough, he brought in MJ, who brought in Larry Brown. Larry Brown? How awesome is that.

Ignore his comment ckad79. His favorite player is "Gerald Wallace" and he credits him for being the backbone of this franchise. Yet he claims the owner who brought G-Force in, re-signed him as a FA when he had the choice not to (like Shinn did most times), and built a team around him "isnt commited". LMAO.

Its knowing that your owner isn't some guy just worried about the bottom line, that he's just as much a fan as the rest of the community. There's something almost romantic about knowing that the hometown guy has made it big and owns the franchise, but isn't about to forget where he came from.

And yes, I know MJ isn't from Charlotte.

    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
