John Fox has the best job in the world. No matter how poor his defense does or how much his team quits on him, the fans will call for his assistants heads instead of him because he's such a nice guy.

Because OMG 2003

I agree with you. The coordinators don't matter. If you don't like the Defensive style, your problem is with Foxy, not Trgo.

Foxy loves him some soft zone.

I also wanted to point out that we, at different points, had a LB and our nickle back covering Fitz one on one. That, ladies and gents, pretty much defines "surreal".

I dont know --

TOP 5 RUSHING OFFENSE-

Lead th eleague in Rushing TD's and outscored the league in the 2nd half of the season.

everyone knows we laid an egg last night, but to pretend the offense is the same old bs offense is just RETARDED.

its still the same plays and foxball, Dwill and Stewart bailed Foxes ass out on sheer determination to exceed on a personal level and they just happen to have talent too.

Uh... no.

When Fox took over this team in 2002, he called our 2001 defense soft and challenged them to be tougher. He favors hard-hitting defense that shuts down the run, puts pressure on the QB, and capitalizes on mistakes.

Until this year Trgovac has had our defense consistently in the top half of the league, sometimes top ten, so Fox really had little justification for replacing him. I've even been one of those people to support Trgovac (a little) based on that. But last night's game was proof, IMO, that he lacks the ability to adjust well enough when we are struggling to put us in position to win. There is no reason that Arizona should have had 27 in the first half, turnovers or not.

I have long been on record as saying that Del Rio's tenure here was briliant but incomplete and that his ONE season as DC here wasn't enough to warrant the adoration that many gave him. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing Trgovac replaced with a more aggressive guy, sort of in the mold of Del Rio. I truly believe that our talent level on defense is better than we have played. Henning was replaced because the offense digressed in '06. Now its time to swing the axe the other way.

Cowher would accept. Come on he loves the Carolinas, and who really wants to coach for the jets or browns right now
And then he could spend the next few years remaking the team into one that fits his vision, and another several years in mediocrity before he finally gets a super bowl team.

No thanks. Give me a coordinator on the rise, not a guy on whom the book has been written, read, and discarded by every coach in the league.

Yes, he was good. But so was Joe Gibbs, and how did he do when he came back to coaching?

I guess I'd respond that, given the money we were spending on D and, also, our drafting habits, that "top half of the league" doesn't really sound that impressive. Our identity on Defense has been bend-don't-break far more than it has been aggressive. That, and the fact that we seldom correct weaknesses in scheme. TE pass? It's money. Screens? Money. Dump off pass? QB mobility? Cha-ching. Hell, we basically drafted Davis with the entire purpose to contain one QB twice a year because we couldn't coach up lane discipline.

Our entire team philosophy for a while has been to do just enough and hope the other team screws up more. If not, lob it to Smith and hope no one watches the Seahawks.

I also don't buy Davidson as the reason our Offense has improved as much as it has. I actually think Henning was more creative with the passing game at least. Guy was a sacrificial lamb. After burning draft picks, forcing Gross to hopscotch constantly and combing FA for ever, we finally got a nice fit for the line. Williams also really improved himself last off season.

Finally, we wilt like pretty flowers the minute the spotlight thinks about coming our way or anyone expects anything from us. That's mental and that's coaching.

    • Cooter, Kurb, others have passed on to glory….  Praise be.
    • Oh good for them! Hope this is the start of a long happy time in their lives here.
    • There was no reason to believe in either Cam or Jake as a top tier elite QB before those seasons either. Cam was an "athletic" QB in most people's minds and his passing skills were open for debate. And there was a bit to that as he was still trying to get that massive power in his arm tamed to be able to put some touch on his passes. And then, he did it. Missiles became bombs, the firing lanes became points of finesse. Cam grew up and leveled up, while still retaining the ability and drive to truck people whenever he wanted. And Jake... no one freaking believed in Jake except Jake himself. He got, and let's be honest with this, one chance in a losing game to make something out of his career. And he rose to the occasion like some kind of mythical hero and continued to do so for the season. He became a true leader for the team, and his gunslinger capabilities rehabbed Moose's career and created Smitty as a force in the league. Smitty went from a barker to a biter. But no one believed in Jake going in. And they trashed him on his way out. Now Bryce... who knows? I've seen some improvement. Maybe he finds his footing. His teammates seem to love and respect him and that means a lot. The game should be moving at his speed now. He has weapons available to him and maybe a defense that doesn't just roll over by the third quarter. And his coach seems to be moving this team in the right direction. Could he do it? It's up to him, if he can find the magic like Jake and Cam did. But don't doubt this, magic is really, really hard to find.
