On the progress of rookie wide receiver Brandon LaFell: Good. I've been impressed with him. He definitely belongs. He's a good football player that's learning our system and learning it very quickly.

On the quarterback competition: I like it; I like competition everywhere. Matt Moorehas had an outstanding camp, and we're getting to know the other guys a little bit better every day. Those guys are working hard, and (quarterbacks) Coach Scherer is doing a great job getting them ready.

On running back DeAngelo Williams working on the little things: He's a true pro. He goes about his business; he works hard; he does it very enthusiastically; and he's a heck of a player. I've seen him grow this year more as a pass receiver. I think that's part of his maturity and something he's worked very hard on this offseason and I'm seeing it here at camp.

On the tight ends and how the group works together: Three (Jeff King, Dante Rosario and Gary Barnidge) of the four were with us last year. We were pretty successful running the football, so we've got a pretty good idea of what they're capable of. It's been well documented we're trying to improve our passing game, and I think those guys are all capable. We just have to get them involved a little bit more. So from a passing game standpoint, we're trying to grow our offense some, and they're pretty well battle tested running the ball - blocking in the run.

I definitely think the TEs are going to play a bigger role in the offense this year b/c for whatever reasons, once Jake sat down last year, and Moore came in he was hitting the TEs and backs tons more on checkdowns than Jake did. Wasn't it Moore that threw the deep pass to Barnidge towards the end of the year? I think we'll see a lot more of that, Rosario too. We can definitely stretch the middle of the field with those guys and King just finds open spaces and makes catches... A good blend of everything with those guys as long as we use them right.

And I REALLY hope Goodson is okay, I'm excited about what we're gonna do with him this year, the last thing I want to happen is him to be hurt and then waived/released/cut... Hopefully, Foxy isn't being his usual vague self knowing it could be serious.

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
