David Gettis?

I should re-word what I said about Jarrett, I can see him getting cut but I really dont think it will happen. Size and speed doesn't make a football player and thats all I ever hear about the guy...He's 6'3 and can run in the 4.3's.

Well, I'll admit I don't know a lot about either, but I know Wright wasn't the only guy we signed to improve our special teams and there can only be so many openings to help us out just for that. Neither are that special (Wright & Martin), but I was basically saying that Charley has had the better camp so far and will probably be Gettis' biggest competition. ;) That's all.

As much as I like Martin, his chance went out when he broke his Finger the other day.

I think Charly is going to be PS bound or just cut. He's going to miss most of training camp with his broken finger. And sorry for starting this thread..didnt see another one and to tell the truth I didnt look very hard...

His size and speed alone should put him ahead of Wright...and we all know Jarrett's situation. So, from my perspective he is fighting to be that 5th wide-out against Martin. Moore, LaFell, Edwards and of course Smith should make the team.

Also, this is like the 4th thread bout' Gettis in a week. Search before posting. :)

I was wondering how he was doing in camp...camp hasn't been going on for a week. And yes I saw your thread about Greg Hardy and David Gettis but I dont think TC had even started.

Yes, he's a big, tall and fast receiver. 6-3/6-4 and 215 pounds - he can run a 4-3/4-4. He's got nice jumping ability and body control as well. Decent - good hands as well. He's a total package receiver, he just has to put it all together.

He's very raw though, He has a good head on his shoulders and should pick up the playbook quickly. Decent route runner with the ability to improve a bunch in that regards. Reason he was picked so late in the draft is he never put it together in College, and wasn't all that impressive at Baylor despite his size and speed. However he was playing for Baylor and they didn't throw a whole bunch till his last year there.

    • No, you're right. It doesn't mean you can't call out his flaws and poor play. But it also doesn't mean you can't admit when he plays well and shows improvement. Not you personally, just in general I mean.
    • I will say, I do think there's a version of Bryce that could be really successful as a high-volume passer in a spread-based offense built around quick throws and timing-based intermediate throws with deeper throws schemed up around them. I actually think the power run based offense we're running is a poor fit for Bryce as it requires him to play under center far more often. It's a very traditional offensive approach whereas I think a scheme that spreads defenses out and lets Bryce distribute the ball quickly with anticipation and accuracy is the sweet spot for him. The key, of course, is to find a way to run the ball efficiently out of those formations. Our personnel right now (backs and OL) aren't good fits for that style of offense and I'm not sure it's a scheme Dave Canales favors very much either.
    • I root for him, and I hope for the best, as does essentially everyone. But that doesn’t mean you can’t call out flaws and bad plays. And that’s what a lot of people get wrong.  I hope I’m wrong and that he continues to improve a lot, I just doubt it. But I’ve been wrong before
