Wow some surprises there. So many people praising LaFell and bashing Jarrett but so far Jarret is ahead of LaFell on the SECOND team. Dexter Jackson third receiver on team 1?? Guess he has been doing well. Most reports I've read have him getting cut or sent to practice squad.

Dont put much stock into the panthers site depth chart. They've never had it right. Notice you dont even see Wallace Wright listed and hes been way better than jackson and martin during camp. Also no Sutton or Edwards. And McClain has been geting more praise in camp while ive heard none from stanford. And Eric Norwood isnt that far down the chart.

One week of TC and no pre Season game yet? Nothing is set in stone. But is this just somebody thinking this or is it official for Thursday?

I don't think it's even official as far as today is concerned. Thats why I was wondering if an official one out before Thursday.

Guys, this is stupid. The depth chart is hammered out by one guy: John Fox. He doesn't consult with the IT department to have the official one put up. I still don't get why people think that. The guys that run panthers.com are just making their best guesses based off Fox's tendencies in the past and who's running with the 1s and the 2s and the 3s in Spartanburg.

    • Are you now equating best/worst rush defense with best/worst defense? Those are separate things entirely. For rush defense, depending on how you quantify it, he has been largely in the bottom third of the league his entire career as a defensive coordinator.  As you can see, aside from his one year in Denver, he has never been above 20th in yardage. Now, there is context to consider which is most coordinators choose to run on him(24th-32nd ranked in his three year in Carolina). So, if you just simply look at Y/A, it has been a relatively mixed bag. Twice a top 15 defense but twice a bottom 15 defense.  The thing the should make all this good/bad run defense a lot clearer is the right most columns. Evero's defense has always prioritized pass defense and confusing QB's. That's the core of his defensive philosophy, as has been reported relatively widely. As much as there are ample personnel issues on that side of the ball(many of which he contributes to with his below average talent evaluations) his defenses may never be truly elite in rush and pass defense unless they are stocked with defensive talent. Like....his Denver defense that he inherited was. To that point, if you look at all those rankings from the three years Fangio(of whom Evero is a noted disciple) it shows a progression of getting steadily better into the far more elite defense it is now under Vance Joseph. As far as his HC interest, recall that he was a hot commodity after Denver and that cooled significantly after his first two years here. I suppose if you count getting interviews for HC positions as a benchmark for being a good coach(most would not) then he is middle of the packish.
