What did you think of Lafell's perfprmance last night?

He dropped a touchdown pass last night, which only further lends to what the scouts were saying about him. We can't afford that kind of play during the regular season. He needs to step his game up, and he needs to do it fast.

On a positive note he showed that he could get separation and he has some decent jumping ability, so I am still optimistic about his future here, albeit cautiously.

I think we will wish we could merge the two to form a WR by the end of the season. Jarrett has the better size and better hands. LaFell did get off the line quicker than Jarrett.....but didn't show anything yet outside that aspect last night. LaFell didn't look good going up for that ball but it is early and it was one game.....(nice throw though).

Dropped it? You mean the pass were the defender had a full hand on the ball and knocked it away?

which td pass? first quarter? where he was in the middle of two defensemen?

the perfect throw by Clausen into the endzone. He looked like a rookie WR in his first NFL game going up for that one. No biggie. He just hasn't shown anything yet...still lots of time for him to. Weak play....I don't care so much they he didn't catch but he was not very strong trying to get to it.

Im going to reserve my judgment on the Wrs till week 1 of the regular season. 1 preseason game isn't going to prove shiit.

THANK YOU!!! Jesus Christ!!! I just don't understand why people are freaking out about our wide receivers right now. It was one preseason game, they're allowed to drop balls, run wrong routes, take a poo in the girl's bathroom... I mean, come on?!?!?!?! They've got three more weeks of preseason before a final roster is even drawn up. And the guys that line up in week 1 of the regular season might not even be the starting line-up three or four games into the season. You just can't judge a receiver on one game... and from what I've heard from Training Camp, Jarrett still looks like he's got his hands on the starting job. But Lafell has looked excellent.

if you're talkin about the one im talkin about you're out of your mind. The Cornerback luckily got his hand in it in time. Brandon used his size real well. Not his fault.

he was only thrown to once in the endzone. Not that I agree with the commentators always but they also pointed out that big WRs can go up weak like that. I mean, you have to imagination to make it that he went up strong and used his body well.

No it doesn't prove poo. I do think 4 preseason games will give an idea. Not the total picture but it should show whether or not LaFell is ready right away.

It was a good through. I wouldn't call it perfect however. It could have been higher, especially since the CB was tall too (6'1 I think). I think that play was more of a result of a good defensive play than LaFell dropping the pass.

yeah, perfect was a bit much but I was highly impressed by that throw from Clausen. I really liked Clausen's work in the pocket also...very calm yet alert.

Hopefully the weather is good next week. Unforunately, LaFell didn't get enough looks to really see anything.

    • Ok fair to judge only his starts.  But you do acknowledge that going from "he's waaaay above league average in a number of categories" to "here's a single stat where he's above league average (not "waaaay") and another where he is exactly at the league average" is a pretty significant backpedal, no?  I'm guessing he's probably in the ~10th range for completion percentage too if we're only looking at starts (I'm too lazy to isolate his starts and do the calculations), so I'll grant you that one too.  But I don't think completion percentage is all that meaningful as a standalone stat if it isn't bolstered by good TD%, Y/A, etc. On that note, for how much people like posting Passing Charts in here (*cough* CRA) - if you peep Shough's passing charts, he hasn't completed a single 20+ yard pass in the past 3 games combined.  His last one was in Week 13 against the Dolphins, which was a single pass of 24 yards.  I just want to be consistent in how we apply our standards - I think it's always been warranted to criticize Bryce for it (even dating back to his rookie season), but do we suddenly not care about that with Shough? And yeah I did acknowledge that Saints' fans have reason to be excited about him and complimented his poise, which is giving my props.  Still not sure I agree that he looks better than a "ton" of QBs nor do I think you or anyone have really demonstrated that.  I think you are generally one of the more reasonable level-headed posters which is why I'm confused at what I consider to be rather hyperbolic language about Shough.
    • I don't disagree with you, but want to point out that Tremble's strong suit has always been blocking. Case and point: on Horn's 25 yard run, he lays down not 1 but 2 nice blocks...and is looking for #3! https://www.panthers.com/video/jimmy-horn-jr-s-25-yard-run-gives-panthers-red-zone-access-on-first-drive
    • It is a popularity contest.  The selection does have meaning though. It is also 1 of the criteria that is considered for the HOF. The game does not have any significance. The team hasn't been to the playoffs in nearly a decade. That's why they don't get primetime national coverage. To the victors go the spoils.
