Tubing/Canoeing

So I want to take the kids on one last day trip before school starts back up and decided that tubing down a river might be something fun to do. I am more of a beach guy than a mountain guy so I have no idea where to go. Zaloos in Jefferson was recommended by a co-worker but that is all I have to go on. Is there another place I should consider going to that is not to far from the Charlotte area? I remember a thread on rafting but my daughter is only 6 so we won't be doing that.

We went last summer to a place up near Bryson City in Deep Creek... the water was cold enough to shrink your nutz and my wife broke her thumb trying to pull our then 9 year old out of a rapid...

Other than that it was fun... probably a little further than you wanted to go...

This is the best place to go. I went there for the first time when I was like 7 or 8.

Yep, best place by far. They have several places to rent the tubes and you can even get cabins right on the creek. The first drop off is the best. We go every year.

Upper Gaulley in WV. Nice, quiet little ride.

hah, cruel.

JR, Try the Lower Green river near Saluda. Its close and the water isnt cold. There are a couple of class 2 rapids but its mostly 1s. Makes sure she wears a life jacket.

just call and make sure the river is running before heading up there. It usually does on the weekends.

Let me know if you go and might go up there and kayak it and be safety for you.

We used to tube the Tuckasegee River in Jackson County when I was in college. Put in upriver towards Cashiers then tube down to Cullowhee. Takes about 4 hours and a case of beer. Need to bring your own tubes. Great river for tubing.

Nice, been down that strectch a few times, never the full length. I actually prefer the strectch from Dillsboro down towards Cherokee. The river is deeper and wider (not as many butt scrapes on rocks). Damn, that's been some year's ago.

Deep Creek is anything but that. Too many rocks and the water level is usually low. That's not the first time I've heard of someone braking bones tubing at Deep Creek.

I just came back from West Jefferson 2 weeks ago... tubed with about 20 friends down the river..

with kids, it should be fun.. just be sure to take the 1 hour trip.. don't fall for the 3 hour trip.. because 5 hours later we finally made it back and all the girls were pissed..

if you have kids, I can't imagine it going any smoother.. but for the 1st 2-3 hours it was great..

PM me if you want contacts...

Sounds like I will go this route. Just wanting a nice easy stroll down the river since my little girl is already a bit hesitant. Taking a day off work Monday and heading up there.

Deep Creek sounds like a death trap especially for a tiny, 6 year old girl.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
