Preseason stats....

This is just for disscussion.

I originally was going to post a much more in depth topic showing all the categories but i x'ed it out on accident and I don't feel like typing it all over again.

Offense

In the passing game we are dead least in a ton of categories.

This is probably because

-the coaches are taking a hard look at the QBs and WRs. We're passing a ton.

-The Ravens/Jets are really good defenses.

-No Steve Smith.

So it's understandable why we are doing so poorly. But being the worst in the NFL is unnacceptable. You can only push the excuses so far. They need to start gellin'.

Rushing attack our average is good, but we aren't as productive mainly because we are passing so much. Again, the Ravens and Jets play strong D.

Defense

The Passing D looks as good as the Passing O looks bad. They are in 1st place by a huge margin. 90 yards a game!!! They are also 1st in a lot of other categories. Thank you Mark Sanchez.

The rushing D is top 10 in most categories, we've forced the most fumbles. They're just outside of elite.

We're also 2nd in total sacks with 11.

I think what I can most take away from these stats is that the coaching D is sound. From starters to scrubs they play with intensity and they play well. Ron Meeks needs a bonus.

Considering the missing pieces on offense and the "trial by error" approach they are using right now, I am satisfied with the offense. I am going to be looking for them to break out of their shell next game, however.

The defense more than makes up for the offense.

I don't think this is the team we are gonna see by far, not even close. I really think its gonna be absolutley all run, run, run and I mean the "why is fox running on 3 and 7" kinda run gameplan. #34 is a beast, if the d is stout and 34 is on mvp mode, we will not be below .500

A key element not mentioned is just how much the coaches are scripting series and how much play calling is being based upon situations? If the coaches are already going with game situational play calling, this offense is in huge trouble. On the other hand, if it's all scripted regardless of the situation, then...

i doubt we're doing situational play calling. We would be running the ball a lot more.

My biggest worry at this point is the continued pathetic-ness of ST's.

Hiring from within was a mistake, IMO, though I don't know what other options were there given an array circumstances.

Smith being on the field automatically makes the WR's better, just having his intensity on the field will translate to better performances by the others. We lost a lot of fire with Jake leaving, unlike Beason and the D, they need someone to provide that spark and Smith is the one to do it.

Musical chairs on the OL isn't helping with protection, which kills the run game, which kills our play action passing. In a nutshell- it shuts our offense down.

D is outstanding, DL has been a big surprise and I can't wait to see them at full strength. There was one throw last night that I think Martin probably would have picked had he been in rather than Pugh.

I think Pugh is pretty impressive, even if it was against 2nd string, but I'm pretty sure he was in there against the 1's as well.

One of the best ST coaches was free in the offseason. At one time some story came out that the Panthers contacted him well after he was hired. It was common knowledge that he was released, I don't understand it. We fire Danny Crossman and hire his assistant.

You're right and I was pissed that April wasn't even a real consideration here. However, the best ST coach in the league is available do you think he would come to a team with no return man and no chance of a contract beyond one season?

I wish we would have pursued him, but I never thought he's land here. That being said, I still think there were better options out there.

No problem with Pugh, but I think Martin's speed, ball skills and year of experience would have helped him make a play on this particular play.

I also think Martin is a little more stout against the run, wasn't impressed with Pugh vs blockers.

KR/PR coverage and a PR guy is what worries me. I still think Capt will get the job back. After that its just the lack of production out of our WRs. As some have said we have no fire! I just hope someone runs up the damn hill this week to get the boys fired up!!!!

I don't get it either. I guess they are just so intrigued by Edwards upside that they aren't going to go with the proven option until they absolutley have to.

I'd rather see the projected week 1 starters out during the 3rd game. The offense and defense will be a lot smoother without the returners muffing punts or fumbling them thereafter.

    • Burns quit on his team, full stop. Burns was and continues to be a liability in the run.    JC has never looked this bad before the concussion. He always was a very solid tackler, from what I remember.  I’ll take the overall body of his work over his current down stretch. I’ve never had to question his heart. The FO has royally screwed up roster management in many other deals but retaining Horn continues to be the right move. He will be back to form next season.
    • I get it. I was making a joke that we have zero chance of winning.
    • Did Bryce play bad? Yes. Did the whole offense play bad? Yes.  Was Canales bad with his playcalling? Yes. Now with that being said I don't put this loss solely on Bryce Young. The seahawks are a much more talented team than us and to win in a scenario like that you need some luck which we didn't have that day.  Bryce has shown this year that you can win with him at QB but the problem is that he doesn't have the ability to elevate the rest of the team around him. Bryce was a number 1 overall pick who we traded a haul of assets to get going into the end of his 3rd year the expectations need to be much higher than 54 yards passing.  It's been nice to get some wins this year and have a chance to make the playoffs and Bryce has played a part in that but at some point the front office needs to see that you can't keep giving Bryce a pass for these low production games.
