The Panthers Are Not Signing Any High Profile Players

with the way the defense is playing (and yes, i'm basing this off of preseason play) if we had a just above average offense then we could be in serious consideration for the superbowl or at least have a real shot at the playoffs.

i feel really good about this D. the rushing game is already stellar. we just need a passing game that will keep opposing defenses honest and we are only one WR away from that, imo. if we can find that then we have ourselves one of the best teams in the league.

also, lafell and edwards can still be groomed with smith and housh being on the team. it takes WRs a couple years to learn the ropes anyways. i feel good about the potential in those two.

a WR squad of smith, housh, lafell, edwards, and charly martin/wallace wright (aka karl hankton) would be a good one.

if we wanted to go with 6 then either jarrett or moore taking a spot. i wouldn't see much of a point in doing that, though. the only reason you woud go with 6 WRs is if you were going to try out a few and do what they did with jarrett and hackett a couple years ago and alternate weeks that they were active and see which one could do better.

i won't say "ever" going after a vet like that. we've done it before...and i'm thinking more like housh than marshall or vjax. i would also say that franchising peppers was pretty close to the same thing. it was throwing a ton of money after a high profile player. they just didn't want to do it again this year.

hopefully they will make a concession and go after housh if he can be had for a reasonable price. i'm not sure what signal that would send to some of the other players that aren't getting big new contracts this year even though they deserve them.

They only thing I worry about is Smitty getting doubled along with a stacked box for Double Trouble. That means someone else MUST catch the ball. And other than our TEs who usually block, I don't trust anyone...yet.

same here. that could change, but as of now i just don't see anyone that deserves that trust.

Honestly this needs to be stickied. Everyday I come to the huddle and everyday I see threads, oh Antonio Bryant got cut, oh we should pick up Vincent Jackson.

Today it was Who'sYourMama.

Lets make this perfectly clear the only players the Panthers sign this year will be cheaper players signed off waivers.

The Panthers are not signing ageing veterans or players that are currently injured or suspended and we sure as hell are not signing anyone that is going to cost us a lot in gaurenteed money.
