Local Vet Recommendations?

I have a cat, she's 18 years old now...she went to the vet to get her shots and to get fixed back when she was about 12 months old and she's never gone back.

it's like some old people...they drink, they smoke and never see a doctor and they just live on!

I can tell you where NOT to go, that's Banfield inside PetSmarts. They have a up front price, then 20 a month for a year. And while yes, you get free appointments in that year and can show up whenever (even after 5) and get an appointment, I seriously wonder about their intentions and knowledge.

I recently talked to someone that used to work there and it's basically all about the money, I mean selling every little thing to people in their store. They freak people out into buying things they really don't need, or doing tests that aren't really needed at that point in time.

We had our German Shepherd spayed there and she had all kinds of problems, which I don't think is totally their fault (reaction to suture, etc) but they didn't really handle it all that well.

Also found out lately after taking her there (she's about a year old) she has a "recessed vulva" which isn't that uncommon, but puts her at risk for UTI's. Apparently after reseaching they shouldn't have spayed her till after her 1st/2nd heat cycle which corrects this problem usually. Now we have to wipe her "vulva" often with wipes so she don't get UTI's, unless we pay for a "vulvaplasty" that's like $600.

Don't get sucked into the neat deal, find a real vet, some of them even do the "yearly" deals too.

In regards to a cat, they are super stable and healthy (most breeds unless you have those fancy expensive types) and you may not even need a vet. I grew up with 2 cats that lived 18 years and we never took them to the vet till one got ran over by a car at like age 15 (and she came out of it fine actually). Dogs, are prone to many more things than cats are.

And don't get an animal if you can't fork over $60 if it's needed. Animal is your responsibility and you shouldn't have got it if you can't handle it. You never know what problems your animal will come with so always be prepared.
