DeAngelo is a student of the game...

it's called knowing the playbook and reading the defense.

Considering only around 60-70 people in the league have the Panthers playbook...that wouldn't common knowledge. Also if you don't play football or drool over it, I wouldn't expect it to be common knowledge.

I'm sorry, while I understand what you are trying to say...I don't think it is common knowledge on how to read a defense or we'd all be playing or coaching in the NFL. :lurk5:

ummm...i know it might sound technical to some people, but that stuff if pretty common knowledge.

it's called knowing the playbook and reading the defense.

I knew there was going to be at least one snarky response to this...

Learning how to make reads like this is not in any playbook and it's not "common knowledge". Have you ever actually seen a playbook?

knowing the playbook, as in any rb (or any position for that matter) knowing his own team's playbook.

there might be a handful of different defenses...they just have different looks and teeks to them.

that's why team's study film. to figure out those looks and quirks so they can recognize them come gametime.

as far as being able to execute during gametime, that's where the talent and skill come in. if you don't have those, it doesn't matter what you know.

Anyone else notice that when he was talking about the WR's getting out and blocking for them he mentioned Smith and LaFell? Nothing about Jarrett.

Yup, very interesting... but he was talking about it in the context of LaFell being a receiving threat, not LaFell as a blocker.

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
