Moore a smart guy..

"Barring an unforeseen setback, QB Matt Moore will start Sunday against Tampa Bay, according to coach John Fox.

“I think that’s fair to say,” Fox said.

Moore practiced “full” on Thursday, so he should be fine."

-I think Moore knew the writing was on the wall here. If Clausen started and had an extremely good game playing a relatively weak opponent, the drumbeat to make him the starter would be deafening. Very wise move not to open up that opportunity assuming he has in fact fully recovered.

I doubt that reasoning played into it at all. Guys at this level want to play because they have pride and ego and know the team is counting on them. They don't do it because they are afraid of losing their job due to injury. Plus anyone knows that Fox won't replace a starter due to injury no matter how well the back up plays. Last year when Godfrey went down, Martin came in and sparkled. But Godfrey kept his job when he got healthy.

My point is not what Fox would have done it's what the drumbeat would have done to Moore. If Clausen performed well relative to Moore, the boos would start up that much quicker if Moore is still in the tank when he returns. The patience of the front office would exist but be that much shorter. Good quarterbacks get psyched out all the time in the NFL.

I think you are overdramatizing the backlash. Plus Moore better have thicker skin than you suggest he has. If he plays like David Carr for the next few games then there may be a problem. So far he has had 1 bad game in the rain on the road against a team opening up their new stadium after we embarrassed them last year.

Again if he plays well and his history suggests he will, all of this will be gone in a week.

i hope they aren't downplaying his concussion. i'm not convinced they aren't.

That would be totally against everything Fox has done for the past 7 seasons. In fact we have always tended to be overcautious.

And I doubt he would do it to save his job given that it seems to be common knowledge that he will be gone at the end of this year. I expect he knows it too, if in fact it is not him who is saying he is gone.

it sounds like it was a stretch to call it a concusion in the first place.

frankly the situation could not be any better for whoever plays qb... tampa bay may be the worst team in the league this year when all is said and done and the game is at home.

Given their defense is ranked higher than ours it doesn't exactly support your statement. When I looked earlier in the week we weren't even given the standard 3 points that the home team usually gets ( we were 2 1/2 point favorites) so the betting pundits don't agree either.

    • Yeah he's the reason we weren't up by td's at that point lol, DC having to get creative just to get into field goal range and then immediately trusted his rookie kicker. to kick a 48 yarder in the wind rather then let Bryce try and complete a couple 5 yard play action passes to get in better position when Green Bay had their whole fuging team in the box to stop Dowdle lol. Twice in a row. If it was already under 40 I'd get just running to set up the hashes but jeez..
    • JMO, I think it is lame as hell to publicly give up on the team and then crawl back when they win a few games. Like, how can you run a PANTHERS PODCAST and then give up on it during the season? Yes, you can argue the Panthers prior to Week 3 hadn't done anything to deserve fanfare, but nobody made them run a Panthers Podcast.  They chose to.  So stick with it.  Instead they gave up and did so publicly.  Which is well within their right - but you can't then turn around and bring it back the same season.
    • The crazy thing about football is it’s a team sport. But one position can make or break the game. And one of the best ways in doing that is by not giving the ball away and being able to run at 4-5 yard clips. Throw in a couple passes and next thing you know you’re in the red zone. Playing this way limits possessions to other(more dynamic) QBs too. And if your defense plays well that could equate to between 4 and six series. If you’re running that efficient, you can say, split the offensive production with the run or the pass. So by attempt byce accounted for his half of the yardage and Rico did too. Rico also managed to punch it in at the goal line. And you gotta give it to our oline and they’re running blocking and that’s without TMO! so the truth is, Canales and management figured out how to use Bryce’s strengths to compliment this run game to cover up his weaknesses in a way that is efficient. And our defense showed improvement against pretty formidable opponent the week after andy dalton gave it to buffalo. They are putting winning football on the field more often, and we are slowly becoming better each week. I hope they can keep it up.
