Setting Realistic Expectations: Panthers 2010 & solving the riddle: 2013.(LONG)

Then you need to read more, there has been plenty of talk about not having a cap or a floor. The funny part is that initially the players were talking about no cap and now the owners are once they saw how much money they saved this year.

As for criticism to Richardson, until he spends the money the evidence is that he is being cheap this year. You can make all the excuses you want but right now he has signed no one long term while other teams have done so despite the supposed 30% limitations. And from what I can see on the field on the first 2 weeks, he gutted a lot of leadership and heart from this team when he made all the cuts.

You can wait and see, I will say he is cheap until he shows me that I am wrong. So far he has done nothing to dissuade that.

I can see your obsession with Moore now, someone does something ONE TIME, in this case one season and / or 5 games, and you label them. Let’s not look at Richardson full body of work.

After 5 games Matt Moore = God

After 1 Season Jerry Richardson = Cheap

Got it!

Fine, I will read more. But at least from the articles I have come across, they pointed to the cap returning.

As for the other part, I explained my sentiment on that in the original thread. Other teams were actually in a position to make a run for the Superbowl, so spending money on a few free agents that can improve those chances makes sense.

We were not. What was the point of doing that if the intention in Carolina is to re-build the team, and bring in a new FO? He should have spend money on free agents that may not fit the next FO's strategy just so we can go 8-8?

That's not being cheap. That's common sense.

Dude seriously you need to stop trying so hard

1) Nothing at all is guaranteed at this point. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN. You can speculate and throw any numbers around all you like...still means nothing

2) TB's cap has nothing to do with the Panthers, we are sitting pretty NOW because IF something does happen and there IS a 20% reduction THEN we have a HUGE space, monetarily speaking of course, to work with! TB just refused to spend money! How can you even compare the two situations? WOW

3) So, In a CBA disputed year, Richardson decides to save money...other than that he has ALWAYS SPENT MONEY! The man is doing this for a reason. Question for you, has he ever been afraid to spend money in the past? I mean just last year we paid a man 1 million dollars per game! Show me evidence that I shouldn't believe he will go back to his old way once the CBA agreement has been reached! You take one year, where the man has a reason, and automatically assume he will not! Makes sense to me!

4) You would hate to lose Moore too, guess what, it’s the NFL and like it or not the NFL is a business. When we lose players at the end of this year it should come to no surprise to anyone, we lose players almost every year! Your desire, or mine for that matter, has no bearing on who the TEAM decides to offer contracts to and who they don’t.

5) There is a reason we are here on this message board trying to convince each other of this and that and they are running the Front Office of an NFL Franchise! I’m not sayin they might know more about football than we do, especially you, I’m just sayin………….

You are doing all the speculation and trying to convince folks you are right. Iam just stating the now not the what if or the old building for the future.

1. What we do know is that there is no cap or floor. And there is no CBA. So any plans based on the what iffs may or may not turn out. We know Richadson is driving an extreme position which by the spending many owners apparently don't share. Fact

2. Right now we have shown no inclination to spend money either much like TB. And free agency will occur with or without a lockout. Guys like Williams will be free agents and unless we sign him will be gone. That is what happened to Tampa Bay, they let all their talent leave and didn't replace them. Until we sign some folks, the reality is we aren't spending the money. Fact.

3. Since he spent tons of money, he had a massive heart attack, fired his sons and hired Morrison to run operations. There is no evidence that he will open the purse strings or that it will be business as usual. Maybe he will and maybe he won't. But until he does, the reality is he isn't. Fact

4. And the 9 starters we have lost have done what? Decimated our team so we look nothing like last year's team. Apparently the average players we lost which meant nothing but on the field the reality is we are getting pushed around by the dregs of the division. Fact

5. I don't claim to know how to run a franchise but frankly it is pretty clear much of what i have been saying about cutting the veterans and out team is coming to pass. Maybe instead of arguing you should pay more attention.

Not if we don't spend the money to sign all of our young players whose contracts are up this year or expiring. By your logic Tampa Bay has been sitting pretty for the past several years since their cap has been at the bottom. But they have sucked because they have no talent. You are assuming that Richardson resumes his olds way of spending and we give big contracts to our young guys. Until he does, we aren't sitting anything. And if we don't play football next year, guys like Williams will still hit free agency and will be able to go elsewhere with no compensation. I would hate to lose Williams, Kalil, and Davis for example which is 2 first rounders and a second with no compensation until the following year at the least because we were sitting pretty not spending money.

I see what you are saying and I agree with most of it. The problem with comparing us to tampa is the family that owns the Bucs also owns a VERY expensive soccer team in europe. I dont know the name and really dont care. But that team has a PAYROLL, not cap, of well over $150 million a year. Most people seem to think the family has not spent anything on the Bucs in a few years because they are losing so much money a year due to their soccer team.

And yes, we will have to sign alot of our free agents but I do belive there will be a salary cap because I dont think the NFL wants to turn into the MLB. Where you only have about 10 to 12 teams a year that can even think about the post season every year. It makes baseball very boring to me. At least I hope that does not happen.

Hey Mr. Observant! That's NOT ME! There are two guys with that name in this forum. Mine is PantherFanForLife.

LMFAO.

You can't even see the difference between PantherFanForLife and PantherFan4Life when it's 6 inches from your eyes, but you saw exactly how Rosario didn't drop that ball from section 126.

Keep owning yourself so I don't have to..............Eagle-Eye! :ciappa:

1. What we do know is that there is no cap or floor. And there is no CBA. So any plans based on the what iffs may or may not turn out. We know Richardson is driving an extreme position which by the spending many owners apparently don't share. Fact

a) If there is a CBA with a new lower cap. We have the necessary room to maneuver

B) If there isn't a CBA with and there is no floor or ceiling with football starts back up we still have PLEANTY of room to maneuver

Please tell me how we are not "sitting pretty" either way? We are set up perfect for future regardless of the CBA outcome. Does this help clear things up?

Fact.

You mean right now as in this very year? A year he, being a leader and a well respected owner of a business, is going against a Union fighting for what he perceives as doing the right thing?

I already commented before on this, if you can't be objective and base spending off of previous years then there is no reason for us to debate this topic.

3. Since he spent tons of money, he had a massive heart attack, fired his sons and hired Morrison to run operations. There is no evidence that he will open the purse strings or that it will be business as usual. Maybe he will and maybe he won't. But until he does, the reality is he isn't. Fact

Paying the hospital bill for his heart attack maybe? Actually just see above

4. And the 9 starters we have lost have done what? Decimated our team so we look nothing like last year's team. Apparently the average players we lost which meant nothing but on the field the reality is we are getting pushed around by the dregs of the division. Fact

Well the O-line is what is really getting pushed around and if I'm not mistaken most of those are the SAME GUYS AS LAST YEAR! Defense wouldn't look so bad if they could get off of the field for a little break!

5. I don't claim to know how to run a franchise but frankly it is pretty clear much of what i have been saying about cutting the veterans and out team is coming to pass. Maybe instead of arguing you should pay more attention.

Oh trust me, I have paid attention to plenty of your "I know football better than anyone else that ever lived" post :D

P.S. I still love you though! 1st beers on me at the game!

I was thinking about that one the other day. Smitty is already starting on the backside of his career and a year off isn't going to help any. It's absolutely essential that this franchise bring in another big name WR sometime between now and 2013.

Unfortunatelly I bet you they don't see that as something that's essential. Not that I'm saying they should, but still sucks for Smith.

Dude, look at the way he spelled my name. I didn't bother clicking on the link considering that's not my username.

PS: If you read our earlier debate he was picking on a single word to refuse to admitt a point.

I am the one who in a discussion with a Tampa Bay fan brought up that the Glaziers own the Manchester soccer team which is losing millions and that Tampa bay is a cash cow to support that other effort. Tell me something I don't know.

There are several teams that are in the same boat as Tampa, notably the Bills, Jaguars, Rams among others. The battle of the CBA won't just be fought between players and owners but between the have owners like Jerry Jones in Dallas and the Glaziers in Tampa. There are major revenue sharing concerns as well.

FWIW teams like Dallas don't want a cap and teams like Tampa don't want a floor. So a new cap is no means assured at this point. If it gets done it will likely be the players supporting it along with a rookie cap as well. With that said I think in the end there will be a cap as well.
