Clausen vs Smith

Who ya got?

After all the talk during the week about Smith getting in Jimmy's face on the sidelines last Sunday, I thought it'd be interesting to get people's opinions on who'd actually win in that fight.

Personally, my money is on Clausen. He's a tough bastard.

I read an article this morning and they mentioned that Jimmy's physique looked like he was more familiar with twinkies than he was with weight lifting and exercise. So my money would be on Smith who is still pound for pound one of the toughest guys in football. At least in his mind. Funny thing is that I doubt he would be the one to start it. He is over that I think.

Where's that article? All I've read is how he's a machine in the gym.

Oh and Clausen gets nailed by D-linemen and pops back up. I think he could go toe to toe with Smith.

He did get his bell rung hard last game and shook it off. I felt bad for him because his eyes were watering. Hopefully he wont make that mistake again. Safety blitz I think.

Is this really a thread? Smitty would OWN Clausen, but it would never come to that. At the end of the day Smitty is a competitor and I think that Jimmy is too. So I feel that Jimmy couldn't even get mad at Smitty because they both want to win and all Steve was doing was expressing his thoughts on "winning"

I either read it here somewhere or through the observer. They are the only ones I read today. Anyway, someone who has been in the locker room and saw what he looked like. Doesn't mean he isn't tough. Anyone who plays pro football is tough. On the other hand, even marshmellows bounce back when you squish them. Maybe someone else read it too. I'll see if I can find it.

Edit- Found the link

Walk into the locker room Wednesday, and you would not pick Clausen as a leader. He's not a big guy. He does not come across as a fierce guy. His body implies that he spends more time with Little Debbie products than with large, small or intermediate weights.

By the title I thought that this was going to be about attitude, so that's what I will address. Smith needs to basically man up and lead by example. He needs to teach instead of preach. Clausen is acting more professional and politically correct about a situation that should have never came up. Every time that I want to believe that Smitty is finally getting it, he does something that bespeaks a lack of maturity and understanding of the dynamics of the development of a rookie QB. Yes, I know that he is as tough a competitor as there has ever been in he league, but every tough competitor doesn't act like an asshole, so basically Smitty needs to channel his frustration towards the guys who actually deserve it, and in a constructive (and private) manner.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
