rookie development .. wrong players or wrong coaches?

First.. let me say I'm not a Fox "hater" ... but I often question some of his play-calling (we all know he controls both sides of the ball)..

But more importantly.. I can't help but wonder how some of the rookies that are considered a "bust" ... such as Jarrett and so far A. Edwards would develop their skills in a different system.. (not all rookies .. these are an exception)

Has Jarrett had a chance to prove himself? When will A Edwards get a chance to get a "feel" for the game..?? I'm not saying to surround your offense around them... but maybe a few end-around's to Armanti? or a few short passes just to see what he can do.. maybe a wildcat here and there..

Is it the inability of the players ...?? or is it the inability of our coaching staff to develop these talents..??

It sounds like not learning the playbook is an excuse ... if you have a player that could benefit your organization .. hire someone to teach them .. make it a top priority .. We only have 3 plays!! It can't be that difficult!

I have a feeling Jarrett will go to another team if we let him go.. and be a decent receiver... not an all-pro receiver... but he's a big, physical receiver that would be the perfect "short-yardage" type receiver...

just my opinion...

Personally, I don't consider Edwards a bust. Takes two or three years for a player to truly become a bust.

I don't either .. but in the face of not drafting a "receiver" in his draft spot .. for our purposes and needs many consider him a bust..

but I guess my point in the thread.. was that he hasn't seen the field!!

Based on his draft position (and salary).. he should at least be active..

They reached for him defiantly. But since he is here now he will need two years to develop. He is in a position he hasnt played but his athleticism will help him out. Give him some time to see how he develops and consider the next two years as his rookie years.

I agree.. but how can he develop when he's not active??

I totally disagree with how rookie's are developed in our system..!!

Why put a player out on the field when they are not ready. That would set them back more than help them. Just because they are making alot of money shouldnt be the only reason to start them. He wasnt a true WR coming out of college it will take him a year or two to get it down. I would rather be patient with him and develop then to throw him in games all year and he gets scard and doesnt develop.

.. and I could argue the other side to say .. how will he learn if he's not out there..?? that's been Fox's philosophy for too long...

I don't mind being patient.. but we've already tried that with Jarrett...

it doesn't work.. IMO

maybe for a later round pick.. but if you see something in a player that makes you want to spend such a valuable draft pick on them... they should be playing.. it shouldn't take two years to get them on the field...

like I said.. just my opinion..

      Having trouble finding all these articles saying the Raiders withheld information. Here’s the latest from Crosby’s surgeon: ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning that Crosby was "doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program." "We truly respect the work of the Ravens' staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process," ElAttrache said. "This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear."     So the Ravens excuse is the future risk assessment based on the physical, not that the Raiders withheld information. They found an excuse to save face publicly. They had the right to cancel the trade for no reason at all, but they’re trying to save face with the most acceptable reasoning they can find. I’ve heard and seen the Ravens getting dragged everywhere for this. You know what would be an easy way to put a stop to that if you’re the Ravens and the Raiders were actually the shady ones withholding information? Just come out and say that you were not given all the medical information. But they aren’t saying that. I guess they’re just taking the bullet for the Raiders just because?    Speculation indeed.

      Two first round picks for a guy with very questionable knees who will be 29 this summer. Yes it is safe to say the Ravens got cold feet.
