Clausen report card: B-

PROS:

Finally I saw an impressive play from Clausen today and some of the potential that has been talked about. I loved the touchdown to Stewart. Yeah the guy was unaccounted for, but give the kid credit. He ran out of the pocket, saw him, threw on the run, nailed him and got us a great TD.

He also didn't fumble and didn't throw any pics(although that may have been thanks to the Saints).

That one play pretty much turned the game around in our favor and put us in a position to win it.

He took one HELL of a hit by a mountain and just shook it right off. I REALLY liked that. Not that he took a hit, but that it didn't phase him.

Great job.

CONS:

Having said that, before the Clausen fans start the party I also say he has major issues that have now become ever more evident and I can't see them addressed in a game or even two: inexperience, rookie status, and accuracy issues.

Too many times I saw him miss his players by a wide margin on short passes. This worries me because some of those times he didn't have a whole lot of pressure on him. The ball wobbled when coming out and sailed wide of the receiver. His short to middle throws were also a bit worrysome. I didn't see any zip on them today. He was floating short passes which is never a good thing. He was still throwing like this all the way to the end of the game, including our last drive. Yeah it's great that you can get us the first down on 4th down and make up for it, but you have to be consistent and not miss your receiver by so much to put us in that situation.

One of the worst things he did today was his inability to adjust in front of defensive ball batters. He continued to throw passes on multiple occasions, either too low, or in one particular situation DIRECTLY into the defenders hands when he could clearly see him 2 feet in front of him with his hands up. WHY THROW THAT PASS? It's actually a miracle he didn't get intercepted.

Managing the clock was yet another issue. This is probably pretty typical of a rookie QB. This problem should be addressed within a few games but failing to do it right on our last drive put even more pressure which didn't help.

But the biggest problem I saw, was once again his inability to get the ball into Steve Smith's hands. I don't know why these two guys are not clicking, but when I said I wanted to see Clausen get us some TD with guys NOT named Steve Smith, that didn't mean at the expense of NOT using Steve Smith.

No excuse to have two games back to back without finding your best guy at least once for a long play. Every QB that's played on this team has found Smith. Clausen needs to work on that and needs to figure it out soon, that is if Smith is not out too long.

All in all a good improvement over last game, and deffinitley a positive for him. But my sentiments remain the same. He was not ready to start and lead this team two weeks ago and he still isn't but he is improving. Now the season is pretty much over thanks to this experiment from Mr. Fox. I hope he at least makes the best of it, stays healthy, tries to keep our other players healthy and gains experience.

The ugly:

Not really anything about Clausen but it's related. Whoever it was that pulled that facemask on Goodson...we need to remember that dude.(I did see Clausen kick that one dude in the head when he slid but not sure if it was the same guy)

PS: Fox. See ya! I knew you would f**king sit on a one point lead in the second half. You gutless bitch! So what if Steve was out? Not like we used him to be in that position? Why become conservative there?

You're coming around.

I am also impressed that he's slowly proving that we have more than 1 wr that can catch a ball.

Does not scoring mean you were conservative?

Not sure I follow. If you are reffering to the Fox comment.....I am talking about the way we took our foot off the gas in the second half...LIKE we have been doing for the past 7 years. This is typical Fox coaching.

I actually told my gf this would happen before the half started. It's so fuging predictable and it makes me want to puke.

Wrong. Jimmy's coming around.

I'm the same dude. Last week he was terrible. This week has was improved and though still has a lot of mistakes, MAKING A PLAY like his touchdown....THAT is what I want to see. THAT means more to me than stats, pics, or anything else. Making a GAME-CHANGING play. That honor belonged to Clausen today. We were hopeless until that play.

I have no problem giving credit when it's due. Him, D-Will, Anderson and Stewart(for sneaking in back there and having awesome hands) were our playmakers today.

PS. Our D deserves major props. Kept us in the game long enough for our O to finally do something. Awesome job guys.

I do not think he was as inaccurate as others. He did throw some short passes however I would rather have that then high passes that get away. The offensive line has not really given him time to throw all year. He has to bounce around in the pocket to buy time. I think he is improving and I see promise in his ability. Peyton Manning threw 28 interceptions his rookie year.

Our O-line improved slightly though. We still suck but it's the best they have played all year.
